     Robert Greathead was born on 18 November 1844 in Nelson, New Zealand.2,5,4 He was the son of George Greathead and Dorothy Turnbull.4 He married Emma Bright, daughter of Richard Bright and Jane Franklyn, on 4 November 1868 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand.2,5 Robert appears in the Wise Directory for Greytown in 1872-3 as a blacksmith.6 He died on 25 October 1879 in Wainuioru, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 34 as a result of an accident.2,5 He was buried in Greytown Cemetery, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, in Block IX plots 34-5 which is the same plot as his parents. Emma his wife buried in the same plot under her new married name of Standen.2,7

In the census of 30 March 1851 at Norton Heath, Norton Mandeville, Essex, England, she was listed as the daughter of Richard Bright Emma wasa scholar.8 She emigrated with Richard Bright and Jane Bright on 5 November 1856 in London, England, arriving in Wellington on 30 Jan 1857 on the ship "Indian Queen. " She married Robert Greathead, son of George Greathead and Dorothy Turnbull, on 4 November 1868 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand.2,4 Her husband Robert died on 25 October 1879 in Wainuioru, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 34 as a result of an accident.2,4 She married John Standen, son of Edward Standen and Frances Benton, on 4 December 1880 in Karori, Wellington, New Zealand, The ceremony took place at the residence of Mrs Frances Standen. His wife Emma died on 16 September 1901 in New Zealand aged 53.4 He died on 14 April 1941 in Featherston, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 83.3

He married Mary Bright, daughter of Richard Bright and Jane Franklyn, on 17 November 1872 in St Lukes, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, by Rev A Knell.2,4 John's name appears in the church subscription list for 1873/4. This comes from the Centennial History of St Mark's, Carterton.6 He died on 29 December 1904 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 54.2,4,7 He was buried in Greytown Cemetery, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, in block III plots 56-7. His son Herbert and wife Mary were also buried in this plot later when hey died.4,8

She emigrated with Richard Bright and Jane Bright on 5 November 1856 in London, England, arriving in Wellington on 30 Jan 1857 on the ship "Indian Queen. In July 1888 Herbert is described in a letter from his grandma Jane to her daughter, is aunt Louisa as woring in the shop with his father who was a blacksmith. He was aged 14.5 He married Constance Anastasia Shutkowski, daughter of Peter Shutkowski and Rosalie Christine Lipinski, on 16 June 1903 in St Marys Catholic Church, Carterton, Masterton, New Zealand.3,6,4 He died on 4 March 1938 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 63.3 He was buried on 6 March 1938 in Greytown Cemetery, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, in Block III plots 56-57 with his parents John and Mary.3,7

Peter Shutkowski and Rosalie Christine Shutkowski emigrated on 29 March 1884 from Plymouth, Devon, England, arriving Port Chalmers, Wellington, New Zealand on 25 May 1884 on "Victory" voyage number 2. The family were German, and Peter worked as a labourer. The Passage Order Number was 629. Their previous address in Germany was Baban, Folwark, Preis, R B Danzig, West Prussia. Their nominator was Frank Lipziski from Carterton. She married Herbert Greathead, son of John Greathead and Mary Bright, on 16 June 1903 in St Marys Catholic Church, Carterton, Masterton, New Zealand.2,3,4 She died on 11 August 1930 in Carterton, Masterton, New Zealand.2,4 She was buried in Carterton, Masterton, New Zealand.

She had been spending time with each of her children in turn after the age of 60.4,5 She was buried in Masterton, New Zealand.4

     Francisca Magdelene Shutkowski was born in 1882 in Gdansk, Poland, Francisca was the sister to Anastasia, the wife of Herbert.2 She was the daughter of Peter Shutkowski and Rosalie Christine Lipinski. She married George Greathead, son of John Greathead and Mary Bright, on 28 January 1904 in St Marys Catholic Church, Carterton, Masterton, New Zealand, George was a blacksmith and Frances gave her occupation as home duties.2,3,4,5 She died on 10 September 1908 in Carterton, New Zealand, from tuberculosis.6,2,4 She was buried on 13 September 1908 in Clareville, New Zealand.2

Walter and Bettie and their children Patricia, John and David
     Walter Albert Greathead was born on 13 May 1905 in Carterton, New Zealand.2,3 He was the son of George Greathead and Francisca Magdelene Shutkowski. Walter was sent to live with an Aunt and Uncle after his mothers death. It was from their house that he ran away to sea working as a stoker on a ship that took him to Australia. It seemed to me he lead a very hard and rough life there ,working as a boxer in the tent shows for quite some time. He was also a cattle station Cook as well, there he learned to make bread.4,5 He married Bettie Louise Holland in 1932.2,3 He died in 1984 in Wellington, New Zealand.2

     Leonard Bright Greathead was born on 25 February 1881 in Carterton, New Zealand.2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of John Greathead and Mary Bright. He married Annie Haigh, daughter of Samuel Haigh and Jane Ann Moffatt, on 14 June 1906 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, at parents home at rear of butchers shop.3,4 Leonard and Annie and their children had a rather nice photograph taken. My guess is it must have been taken around mid to late 1920s as little Earle as born in 1921 and is seated in the middle of the picture. Standing: Rita, Mervyn, Annie, Gordon, Beatrice, Leonard and Evelyn and Sitting: Harold, Earle and Owen.7 His wife Annie died on 6 March 1934 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 51.3,4,6 He died on 22 July 1946 in Greytown Hospital, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 65.3,4,6 He was buried in Greytown Cemetery, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, in block II plots 109-110 with his wife Annie.3,8

Annie Greathead née Haigh
     Annie Haigh was born on 14 March 1882 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand.3,4,2,5 She was the daughter of Samuel Haigh and Jane Ann Moffatt.2 She married Leonard Bright Greathead, son of John Greathead and Mary Bright, on 14 June 1906 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, at parents home at rear of butchers shop.3,4 Leonard and Annie and their children had a rather nice photograph taken. It was reported in The Courier Mail of 7 March 1934 that Mrs. Leonard Greathead, of Greytown, who was suffering from heart trouble, collapsed and died three hours after the first shock. The earthquake caused considerable damage and one other person died.7 She was buried in Greytown Cemetery, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, in bock II plots 109-110. her husband Leonard was buried with her when he died in 1946.3,8

     Richard Bright was born on 16 November 1814 in Norton Mandeville, Essex, England.3,4 He was the son of William Bright and Martha Sprngham.2 He married Jane Franklyn in 1842 in Parish Church of St Marys, Lambeth, London, England, by the Curate who was A Peat. Richard worked as a blacksmith.5 Richard was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Norton Heath, Norton Mandeville, Essex, England, Richard was a blacksmith employing one man.6 He and Jane Bright emigrated on 5 November 1856 from London, England, arriving in Wellington on 30 Jan 1857 on the ship "Indian Queen. " His wife Jane died on 12 January 1889 in Carterton, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 72.4 He died on 3 March 1900 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 85.4

     Jane Franklyn was born on 16 February 1816 in Kelverton Hatch, Essex, England.2 She married Richard Bright, son of William Bright and Martha Sprngham, in 1842 in Parish Church of St Marys, Lambeth, London, England, by the Curate who was A Peat. Richard worked as a blacksmith.3 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Norton Heath, Norton Mandeville, Essex, England, she was listed as the wife of Richard Bright.4 She and Richard Bright emigrated on 5 November 1856 from London, England, arriving in Wellington on 30 Jan 1857 on the ship "Indian Queen. " Jane wrote a letter on 10 July 1888 to her daughter Louisa who was living in Australia giving lots of news about the family. Her mother was living in Martinborough at the time.5 She died on 12 January 1889 in Carterton, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 72.5

She has gone to her rest, and her troubles are over; She is free from all sorrow and pain ; And her ills of this life, which she patiently bore, Will never distress her again. Inserted by her loving and sorrowing mother.3,4
