Richard Allan Huitson was born on 11 July 1837 in Ingleton, Teesdale, Durham, England.¹ He was the son of William Huitson and Ann Allen. He married Eleanor Allen, daughter of Marmaduke Allen and Barbara Gill, on 13 August 1859 in Wesleyan Chapel, Barnard Castle, Teesdale, Durham, England.¹ Richard was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Marshall Terrace, Darlington, Durham, England, Richard was listed as a millwright living with his wife and children including little Edith who was only two months old.² Richard was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in 9 Westwood Terrace, Thornaby, Yorkshire, England, Richard was working as a millwright, his mother in law wasliving with the family.³ He died on 15 December 1908 in Thornaby, Durham, England, aged 71.^1,4 He was buried in Thornaby Cemetery, Thornaby, Durham, England.¹
