     Violet Hughes was born in 1906 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.1 She was the daughter of Henry Hughes and Amy Greathead. The family lived in Birmingham for most of their lives. As children in Fazely Street (around the corner from Gibb Street) then around Summer Lane (in the Aston area of Birmingham) and eventually in Conybere Street in the Highgate area of the city.1 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 61 Regent Street, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Henry Hughes Harry was an electro plate polisher living with his wife and children. His niece Harriet was boarding with the family in their three roomed home.2 She married John Charles Bernard Fry in 1926.1 They lived in Highgate initially before moving to Swancote Road living opposite Violet's sister Amy.1 She died in 1996.1
