Walter was an Assistant to a Tailor.5 Walter was a milkman and signed up into the 84th Training Reserve No 378756 on 23 June 1917 in Hounslow giving his address as 61 Brookfield Road, Bedford Park living with his father Edward. He was sent to France on 29 September 1917 returning home on 5 October 1919 and left the Army on 22 Novembe 1919 having served 2 years 153 days. Early in his service on 12 July 1917 and 25 August 1917 Walter appeared 'dirty on parade' and he was confined to barracks for 2 days for the first offence and three days for the second. He seems not to have offended again.6 He married Alice A Evans in 1927 in Fulham, London, England.7 He died in 1974 in Braintree, Essex, England.8
