Frederick Borwick Stikeman was born circa 1817 in Lambeth, London, England. Frederick came from Lambeth and was listed as a Gentleman like his father Thomas Stikeman. Frederick was the second son. Jane's father Richard Sparkes. Richard John Sparkes was baptised on 25 December 1773 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Richard Sparkes and Sarah Atfield. He married Sarah Ewen on 6 November 1806 in St James, Abinger, Surrey, England, after a licence had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by Ann Rose, Frances Ewen, M Sparkes and John Ryde.2,3 He inherited Green Place when his father died in 1815.4 He received the probate of the estate of Mary Sparkes on 3 October 1816 he was her beloved nephew. Mary had clearly fallen out with his father Richard, her brother, stating in her will he had never loved her.5 He was listed as head of household in the 1841 census in Wonersh, Surrey, England. Richard was of independant means living with his wife and children with five servants.6 He died on 18 September 1850 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 76.7,8 He was buried on 26 September 1850 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.9 His estate was probated on 18 November 1850 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury in London before the Judge of the Oaths of John Sparkes his brother and Joseph Haydon.10

Cyril Mace was born on 8 December 1905 in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was the son of Oswald Mace and Sarah Elizabeth Diaper. He was the son of Oswald Mace and Sarah Elizabeth Mace in the 1911 census in Little Compton, Gloucestershire, England.2 In 1925 Cyril came to Barnett Hill and worked as a footman, rising to butler about 1931.3 He married May Elizabeth Cole in 1934 in Westminster, London, England.4 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Cyril was listed as living at The Lodge, Barnett Hill, Wonersh, Surrey, England, with his wife May. Cyril was a butler in Barnett Hill for Beatrice Cook.5 During the war Cyril served as a despatch rider in the Home Guard. Barnett Hill was presented to the Red Cross Society for use as its training centre. Cyril stayed on as steward, working for the society until 1970 and being awarded the organisation's Badge of Honour.3 During his years at Barnett Hill he was a member of the Wonersh Football Club and for many years played cricketer for Blackheath, where he was also a regular supporter until failing health stopped him attending games. He was also an active and popular member of Wnersh Good Companions Club.3 Despite losing his two sons at early ages he was known as having an indomitable spirit and a mischievous sense of humour which he kept till his death.3 His wife May died in 1977 in The Lodge, Barnett Hill, Wonersh, Surrey, England.6 He died on 26 March 1997 in Stoneycrest Nursing Home, Hindhead, Surrey, England, at age 91.7,8 He was buried on 2 April 1997 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, in plot 647 with his wife after a service in Blackheath Church.8
