     Loelia Mary Ponsonby was born on 6 February 1902 in St James Palace, London, England.1,2 She was the daughter of Frederick Ponsonby and Victoria Lily Hegan Kennard. Much of her childhood, in Wonersh after her grandfather bought Great Tangley Manor in 1905.1 She married Hugh Richard Arthur Grosvenor on 20 February 1930 in St George Hanover Square, London, England, Hugh was a British landowner and one of the wealthiest men in the world and 2nd Duke of Westminster. Their best man was Winston Churchill. Hugh had been married twice before his marriage to Loelia.1,3 She and Hugh Richard Arthur Grosvenor were divorced in 1947 after several years separation. There were no children from their marriage.4 Loelia was an expert needlewoman, a talent she had inherited from her mother. After her divorce she established herself in Send in Surrey and became a skillful hostess.1 Loelia, Duchess of Westminster wrote a book about her early life called Grace and Favour and it was published in 1962.5 She married Martin Alexander Lindsay on 1 August 1969 in Surrey, England, Sir Martin Lindsay of Downhill was an artic explorer, Gordon Highlander, Conservative MP and Historian of the Baronetage.1,6 Her husband Martin died in 1981 in Surrey, England.1,7 She died on 1 November 1993 in Westminster, London, England, at age 91.1,8

     Kathleen Haidee Strange was born on 25 February 1904 in Leamington, Warwickshire, England.1 She was the daughter of George Nevill Strange and Emily May Colebrook. She was the daughter of George Nevill Strange and Emily May Strange in the 1911 census in Coombe Vale, Liverpool Gardens, Worthing, Sussex, England.2 Kathleen attended London University and then became a civil servant and among other posts, was housing manager in Chelsea in 1941.3 Kathleen wrote a book called 'The Clinbing Boys' about child chimney sweeps, published in August 1982. She edited a volume of many versions of the 23rd Psalm, including some in dialect and wrote published article on a writing master's book, found at Great Tangley Manor and then put into the Victoria and Albert Museum.3 She died on 11 June 2003 in Kent, England, at age 99.4,3

Henry James Sage

     Henry James Sage was born on 4 October 1868 in Kensington, London, England.1 His father, a clerk, later became a manager in a firm of builders and surveyors. Sage received lessons from an artist named Montague.2 He married Kate Stuart on 14 September 1898 in Guildford, Surrey, England, after they married Henry and Kate lived in Shalford for about 12 years, then moved to Bramley. When at Shalford Henry was closely associated with the Methodist Church of which he was a circuit steward. On moving to Bramley he identified himself with Wonersh Congregational Church.3,4 It is understood that Henry Sage was commissioned to paint an oil painting for Major Sudbury and his family of Wonersh Street looking up towards the Grantley Arms.5 He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in Craigness, Station Road, Shalford, Surrey, England. Henry was an artist living with his wife and son.6 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in Craigness, Station Road, Shalford, Surrey, England. Henry was a landscape artist living with his wife and children.7 Most of his favourite paintings were commissioned. Favourite subjects included Guildford High Street, Abbot's Hospital, Castle Archway Guildford, Abbot's Hospital, Witley Parish Church. and many Churches. In many Canadian homes there are examples of his work bought by Canadian Officers when stationed at Witley Camp. In his early days his pictures were in oils or black and white, but for many years he confined himself to water colours.4 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Henry was listed as living at Fernlea, Eastwood Road, Bramley, Surrey, England, with his wife Kate. Henry was a landscape artist.8 The Congregational Monthly of October 1940 stated they were glad to have Henry and Kate worshipping with them. Henry was the organist in the church for a while.9 His wife Kate died in 1943 in Surrey, England.10 He died on 22 July 1953 in 17 Oak Tree Road, Milford, Surrey, England, at age 84.11,12 His estate was probated on 1 October 1953 in Winchester to his son Rowland Durbin Sage and agricultural worker and Arthur Leonard Sage and engineer surveyor. His effects were valued at £781 12s 11d.12

     George James Nesbitt was born in 1855 in Dulwich, London, England.1 He was the son of Alexander Nesbitt and Louisa Cox. He married Katherine Lees on 26 April 1882 in St Thomas, Leesfield, Lancashire, England, after a licence was issued. The ceremony was witnessed by Joseph Lees, Alice M Radcliffe, Fred M Nesbitt , J Crompton Lees and Edith J Nesbitt. George was listed as a Gentleman like his father Alexander. Katherine's father Joseph Lees was also a Gentleman.2 He died on 24 August 1923 in 44 Onslow Road, Richmond upon Thames, Surrey, England.3,4 His estate was probated on 2 February 1924 to his widow Katherine and his effects were valued at £2,905 2s 3d.4
