     Richard Sparkes was baptised on 20 October 1749 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Richard Sparkes and Mary Mower. He married Sarah Atfield on 21 May 1772 in St John the Evangelist, Stoke next Guildford, Surrey, England, after a licence was issued on 19 May . Richard was from Wonersh and Sarah from that Parish. The ceremony was witnessed by Mary Sparkes and Jane Atfield.2,3,4 Richard inherited Green Place in 1786.5 Richard signed his will on 18 November 1813 in the presence of William Lot, William Woods and Thomas ? all from Godalming.6 He died on 24 May 1815 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 65.2 He was buried on 31 May 1815 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.7,2 His estate was probated on 15 June 1815 in London before the worshipful John Dodson Dr of laws and surrogate by the oath of his son Richard Sparkes and sole Executor.8
