Alice Mayne was born in 1875 in Godstone, Surrey, England.1 She was the daughter of Ellen Mayne. She married George Homewood on 1 June 1895 in St Mary, Bletchingley, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Edward Henry Loker and Elizabeth J Arsons. George was a sawyer like his father James Homewood. No father's name was recorded for Alice.2,3 She was the daughter of Ellen Mayne in the 1901 census in 4 Mint, Bletchingley, Surrey, England. Ellen was a charwoman living with her daughter, son in law and grandchildren.4 Her husband George died before 1911. She married William Avenell, son of Edward Avenell and Caroline Ann Durant, on 28 September 1912 in St Mary, Bletchingley, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Harry Waters and Nellie Alice Homewood. William was a police constable and his father Edward Avenall was a carter. Alice was a widow and no fathers details were recorded.3 Her husband William died on 3 January 1916 in France.5 She died in 1956 in Surrey, England.6
