The ceremony was witnessed by Philip Bourden and Jane Bourden. James was a hearth rug weaver and his father George was a dyer. Sarah's father Philip Bourden was a general dealer. Both James and Sarah gave their address as 35 Turville Street.3,4 He was listed as head of household in the 1851 census in 3 Inns Court, Quaker Street, Spitalfields, London, England. James was a hearth rug maker living with his wife and sons.5 He was listed as head of household in the 1861 census in 17 Lansdown Green, Southwark, London, England. James was a hearth rug weaver living with his wife who was working as a charwoman and their children. They had one lodger.6 He married Eliza Avenell, daughter of Thomas Avenell and Sarah Underwood, I can find no marriage for James and Eliza but evidence suggests they had eight children. When James died Eliza married William Craddock using the name of Eliza Jackman.1 He was listed as head of household in the 1871 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England. James was a coconut mat maker living with his wife and children and Edward Stent an apprentice weaver aged 20 from Woking.7 He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England.
