     James Durant was born circa 1825 in Spitalfields, London, England.1 He was baptised on 9 January 1825 in Christ Church, Spitalfields, London, England, His parents were George and Jane Durant.2 He married Sarah Ann Bourdon on 21 September 1846 in St Philip, Bethnal Green, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Philip Bourden and Jane Bourden. James was a hearth rug weaver and his father George was a dyer. Sarah's father Philip Bourden was a general dealer. Both James and Sarah gave their address as 35 Turville Street.3,4 He was listed as head of household in the 1851 census in 3 Inns Court, Quaker Street, Spitalfields, London, England. James was a hearth rug maker living with his wife and sons.5 He was listed as head of household in the 1861 census in 17 Lansdown Green, Southwark, London, England. James was a hearth rug weaver living with his wife who was working as a charwoman and their children. They had one lodger.6 He married Eliza Avenall, daughter of Thomas Avenall and Sarah Underwood, I can find no marriage for James and Eliza but evidence suggests they had eight children. When James died Eliza married William Craddock using the name of Eliza Jackman.1 He was listed as head of household in the 1871 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England. James was a coconut mat maker living with his wife and children and Edward Stent an apprentice weaver aged 20 from Woking.7 He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England. James was a hearth rug weaver living with his 'wife' and children. William Craddock was lodging with them. He was a General labourer.8 He died in 1881 in Guildford, Surrey, England.9

     William Jackman was born on 25 September 1870 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.2 He was the son of William Jackman and Eliza Avenall.1 He was a son of James Durant and Eliza Durant in the 1871 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of James Durant and Eliza Durant in the 1881 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England.4 He was the stepson of William Craddock and Eliza Avenall in the 1891 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England. William was a labourer in the powder mill.5 He married Ellen Roberts in 1892 in Hambledon, Surrey, England.1,6 He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in Liberal Club, Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England. William was the caretaker of the Liberal Club living with his wife and children, little Albert was just 9 months old. William's brother Arthur Craddock was with them.7 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in Shalford, Surrey, England. William was a domestic gardener living with his wife and four children. They had six children two of whom had died by 1911.      Mary Jane Durant was born in 1872 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.2 She was the daughter of James Durant and Eliza Avenall.1 She was the daughter of James Durant and Eliza Durant in the 1881 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England.3 She was the stepdaughter of William Craddock and Eliza Avenall in the 1891 census Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England Mary was a laundress.4 She married Alfred William Best in 1894 in Hambledon, Surrey, England.5 She was the wife of Alfred William Best in the 1901 census in Westfield, Surrey, England. Alfred was a printers reader living with his wife, sons, little Cedric was only 5 months old. His brother in law and sister in law were also staying with them. Their daughter Winifred was staying with Alfred's parents William and Emma Best in Peckham.6,7 She was the wife of Alfred William Best in the 1911 census in Tangley, Maybury Hill, Woking, Surrey, England. Alfred was a printers reader living with his wife and children.8 Her husband Alfred died in 1942 in Surrey, England.9 She died on 6 June 1953 in Tangley, Maybury Hill, Woking, Surrey, England.10,11 Her estate was probated on 8 August 1953 in London to Edward Arthur Radford who was a chartered accountant. Thomas was a bricklayers labourer.5 He married Alice Kate Butt, daughter of Mark Butt and Ellen Stemp, on 20 February 1909 in Register Office, Poplar, London, England.6,7 He witnessed the marriage of Herbert James Singleton and Elizabeth Durant on 3 December 1910 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England.8,9 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in 20 Morville Street, Bow, London, England.
