Robert Francis Humphreys was born circa 1911 in Canvan, Ireland.1 He married Rita Nellie Thumwood, daughter of Frederick Thumwood and Daisy Harriett Emily Royal, on 29 January 1949 in Christ Church, Shamley Green, Surrey, England, after the banns were read. Robert was an ex soldier and his father George was a farmer. Rita was a hospital staff employee and her father Frederick was a coal merchant. Rev Hugh George Barnabus Anthony was born on 12 June 1909 in Epsom, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Rev Charles John Anthony and Florence Ann Hope Dowsett. He was baptised on 17 July 1909 in St Barnabas, Sutton, Surrey, England, his father was a clerk in Holy Orders and the family lived in Inglecroft, Carshalton Grove.2 He appeared in the 1911 census in London Fever Hospital, Liverpool Road, Islington, London, England. Siblings Hugh Paul, Basil and Winifred listed as patients, their parents and older sister were at home in the Vicarage in Walworth.3 Hugh trained at Selwyn College in Cambridge and Wells Theological College and was ordained in 1932. He was appointed curate at St Augustine's in South Bermondsey.4 In 1935 he moved to Limpsfield where he took charge of the district church of St Andrew.4 He married Joan Mabel Morgan on 16 November 1935 in St Barnabas, Sutton, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by S C V Morgan and Florence Anthony. Hugh lived at 32 Westmead Road in Sutton. His father Charles John Anthony was deceased and had also been a Clerk in Holy Orders. Joan lived at Kilmoyey, 205 Banstead Road, Carshalton. Her father Sydney George Morgan was a civil engineer.5 Hugh joined up as an Army chaplain in 1940 staying in the military for 10 years.4 When he returned to civilian life he was given the curacy in Wimbledon.4 Hugh and Joan moved to Wonersh in 1953 and stayed until Hugh's retirement in 1980.6 When Hugh retired in 1980 he and Joan moved to Guildford although their hearts remained in Wonersh.7 His wife Joan died on 4 January 1991 in 3 Southbury Lawn Road, Guildford, Surrey, England.7,8,9 He died on 18 June 1991 in Manormead Nursing Home, Hindhead, Surrey, England, at age 82 Manormead was a carehome for retired clegy, licensed church workers, their spouses, widows and widowers. which sadly closed in March 2016 after more than 60 years.4,10,9 His estate was probated on 3 September 1991 in Manchester. Administration papers were issued, his effects were valued at not exceeding £125,000.9 M.11

Joan Mabel Morgan was born on 23 September 1912. She married Rev Hugh George Barnabus Anthony, son of Rev Charles John Anthony and Florence Ann Hope Dowsett, on 16 November 1935 in St Barnabas, Sutton, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. Beatrice Elliott Lindell was born on 9 August 1875 in Illinois, USA. She married Frank Henry Cook, son of John Mason Cook and Emma Hodges, on 21 June 1894 in Jackson, Missouri, USA.1 Adela Dendy Marshall of Chinthurst, was in 1925 the first President of Wonersh WI with Mrs Grace Parsons of Old House in The Street and Mrs Beatrice Cook of Barnett Hill House being her Vice Presidents.2 She received the probate of the estate of Frank Henry Cook on 5 February 1932.3 On 2 September 1939 in the National Register Beatrice was listed as living at Barnett Hill, Wonersh, Surrey, England, Beatrice was a VAD Commandant living with Alice Girardot and many servants.4 Beatrice announced in The Times of 23 December 1940 that she had moved out of Barnett Hill and into Sparkes Place in Wonersh.5 She died on 2 August 1953 in Sparkes Place, Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 77.6,3 She was buried on 5 August 1953 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, in plot 617 under the same gravestone as her husband.7 Her estate was probated on 22 October 1953 in London to Frances Beatrice Steward married woman and Alice Frederica Girardot a spinster and Malcolm John Henderson a solicitor. Her effects were valued at £222,428 7s 10d.3

Frank Henry Cook

Frank Henry Cook was born in 1862 in Leicester, Leicestershire, England.1 He was the son of John Mason Cook and Emma Hodges. He was the grandson of Marianne Mary Ann Cook in the 1881 census in Temperence Hall Hotel, 63 Granby Street, Leicester, Leicestershire, England.2 He was baptised on 18 March 1891 in All Saints, Lambeth, London, England, as an adult with his brother Ernest Edward The family lived in Upper Norwood and their father was a tourist agent.3 He married Beatrice Elliott Lindell on 21 June 1894 in Jackson, Missouri, USA.4 Frank bought 26 Acres of beautiful grounds and woodlands in 1905 and spent £35.000 on building a house that was to become his family home, Barnett Hill. The house was constructed as a Queen Anne-style mansion and, upon completion, was named after the hilltop itself, Barnett Hill. Frank had the surrounding grounds landscaped, transforming them into a combination of terraces, formal gardens and paved areas – which were all cared for by a team of 14 gardeners – and lived there for many happy years with his wife and family until he died.5 He received the probate of the estate of Thomas Albert Cook on 7 January 1915.6 The Wonersh Parish Magazine of July 1930 it was reported that Frank paid to have the first three 1539-1812 Parish Registers mended and rebound.7 He died on 25 December 1931 in Barnett Hill, Wonersh, Surrey, England.8,9,10 He was buried on 29 December 1931 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, in plot 617 his wife was later buried under the same gravestone.11 His estate was probated on 5 February 1932 in London to Beatrice Elliott Cook his wife, Ernest Edward Cook esquire and Evan Cadogan Eric Smith a bank director. His effects were valued at £1,054,769 6s 4d.9
