     William Scothern was born about 1835 in Sterby, Nottinghamshire, England.1 He married Elizabeth Ward, daughter of William Ward and Elizabeth ..., in 1857 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England.2 His wife Elizabeth died on 1866 in Bingham, Nottinghamshire, England.1,3 William was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Town Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England, William is living next to his parents in law and listed as a framework knitter. His daughters and son.4 He married Harriet Sidsaph in 1876 in Bingham, Nottinghamshire, England.1,5 William was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 William was described as a general labourer living with his wife and daughter, presumably hs step daughter Annie aged 11. A cousin called Henry Jackson aged 18 and working as a groom completed te household.6 He died in 1915 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England.7
