Samuel Sillifant

     Samuel Sillifant was born on 9 September 1821 in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales.1,2 He was the son of Timothy Sillifant and Margaret ...3 He married Charlotte Greathead, daughter of William Greathead and Charlotte Ridley, on 29 April 1844 in Parish Church, Madeley, Shropshire, England, by licence. The ceremony was witnessed by Mary Greathead and Horatio Sillifant. Charlotte gave her address as Ironbridge and Samuel as Brecon. He worked as a draper and Charlotte was described as 2nd daughter of William, a merchant from Whitby.4,3,5 Samuel was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at 21 Linton Street, Islington, London, England, Interestingly Samuel is listed as James on the census return. He was working as a Manchester warehouseman living with his wife, daughter, sister in law Mary Greathead, brother in law John Kershaw who was married and working as a drapers assistant and a servant called Catherine Proud. Both Catherine and her sister were listed as goveresses.6 His wife Charlotte died on 1851 in Guildford, Surrey, England.7 He married Catherine de Boudry Scott, daughter of ... Scott and Catherine ..., in 1853 in Lambeth, London, England, It is believed that Samuel married Catherine de Boudry Scott at the residence of William Steele, Edmonstone Street, West End.3,8 Samuel was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in 17 Windsor Road, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales, Samuel was a draper.9 Samuel was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in Bower House, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales, Samuel is now a retired draper.10 Samuel was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 28 Westbourne Road, Penarth, Glamorganshire, Wales, Samuel was living on his own means, his niece Florence a school governess was living with them, although she is enumerated as a daughter.11 Samuel was listed as head of household in the census of 3 March 1901 in Maybank, Weston Super Mare, Somerset, England, Samuel and Catherine are living with their deaf unmarried daughter Ada.12 Samuel died on 13 November 1905 in Lindum, Milton, Weston Super Mare, Somerset, England, aged 84.2,13 The will of Samuel was proved by his widow Catherine, his executor. His effects were valued at £1693 18s 1d.2

     Arthur John Greathead was born on 7 September 1868 in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Thomas Greathead and Esther Martin. He was baptised on 19 September 1868 in Wesleyan Methodist, Middlesbrough Circuit, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England.2 Arthur died in 1868 in Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, He was only eleven weeks old.4,5 Arthur was buried on 19 November 1868 in Lindthorpe Cemetery, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England.5
