William John Stunt was born on 12 October 1822 in Sheerness, Kent, England.1 He was the son of William Stunt and Martha Holden.1 William appeared at the the Central Criminal Court on 1 March 1847 and the trial was held before Mr Bullock on 8 March, he was charged with embezeling and stealing the sums of 28s, £4 8s and £6 5s the monies of William Bromfitt and another, his masters. He pleaded not guilty and was acquitted.2,3 He married Esther Crafer on 21 April 1850 in St Jude, Whitechapel, London, England, after the banns were read. The ceremony was witnessed by Michael Galsfter? and ?Aaron Cohen. william was a clerk and his father also William John Stunt was a baker. Esther's father Edward Crafer was an upholsterer. Both William and Esther gave their address as Great Prescot Street.1,4,5 William was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at 2 John Street, Hackney, London, England, William was a writing clerk living with his wife and son of 1 month old. It appears his mother and sister Eliza may be living as a separate household but att the same address.6 William was accused on 13 January 1860 of obtaining 17 shillings by false pretenses with intent from Donald Nicoll He was remanded until 2 February. The trial was postponed until when on 2 April he pleased guilty and was sentences to 18 months on 9 April.7 In the census of 7 April 1861 in House of Correction Cold Field Baths, Clerkenwell, London, England, he was listed as the inmate of William is a prisoner listed as WS married age 36 and a clerk born in Sheerness. His wife is working as a housekeeper and has their three sons with her in Hackney.8 William was accused of robbery with violence on George Doughty of £5 15s 6d by Thames Police on 1 February 1867 he pleased not guilty and the case was discharged.7 William was accused of Robbery with others with violence by Thames Police. However he was discharged on 18 July and accusation ignored.7 William was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in 17 Weaver Street, Bethnal Green, London, England, William was a tailor living with his wife and 8 children.9 William was accused by Mr Lushington of the Thames Police on 12 March 1877 along side John Cole of wilful murder of William Whale. He was detained upon the Coroners (Mr Humphreys) Warrent for manslaughter. Both men were found guilty. John Cole received 5 years but William Stunt received only 15 months.7 William was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 40 High Street, Northowram, Yorkshire, England, William was a farm labourer living with his wife and children and grandaughter Selina age 1.10 William was listed as the head of the family on the census of 5 April 1891 in 46 High Street, Northowram, Yorkshire, England, William was a woolcomber living with his wife and daughter Louise.11 His wife Esther died on 1899 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England.1,12 William was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 48 High Street, Northowram, Yorkshire, England, William was a mohair woolcomber living with his daughter Louise.13 William died in 1903 in Poor Law Hsopital, Halifax, Yorkshire, England, Not too sure about age given but since it was given by a member of the family probably not quite accurate. William had given age 72 in 1901 on the census.1,14

Frederick Charles Stunt was born on 5 July 1862 in Totty Street, Bethnal Green, London, England.1,2 He was the son of William John Stunt and Esther Crafer.1 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 17 Weaver Street, Bethnal Green, London, England, he was listed as the son of William John Stunt.3 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 40 High Street, Northowram, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of William John Stunt Frederick was a joiner.4 He married Maria Jagger on 3 October 1885 in St John the Baptist, Halifax, Yorkshire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Asa Heak and Emily Stunt. Frederick was a joiner his father William Stunt was a wool comber.
