Watson Gresham Scatcherd

     Watson Gresham Scatcherd was born in 1856 in Hunslet, Yorkshire, England, his father sadly died before he was born.1 He was the son of Watson Scatcherd and Mary Anne Gresham. In the census of April 1861 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the grand son of Hutchinson Gresham.2 Watson died on 30 November 1866 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, this was where his grandparents lived.3,4 Watson was buried on 4 December 1866 in St Matthew, Chapel Allerton, Yorkshire, England.5 His estate was probated on 1 April 1867 Letters of Administration were taken out in Leeds by his mother, a widow of Spencer Villa in Leeds. His effests were valued at under £300.4

Hutchinson Gresham

     Hutchinson Gresham was born about 1795 in Horsington, Lincolnshire, England. He married Ann Pyatt. Hutchinson was listed as the head of the family on the census of April 1861 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, Hutchinson was a pawn broker living with his wife two children and grandson with two servants.1 Hutchinson died on 5 August 1861 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, he was described as a pawnbroker.2,3 His estate was probated on 22 August 1861 in Wakefield by the oaths of James Stables of Leeds, a tea merchant, William Horby of Leeds a tobacco manufacturer and his widow Ann Gresham. His effects were valued at under £12,000.3

     Ann Pyatt was born about 1801 in Wilford, Nottinghamshire, England. She married Hutchinson Gresham. In the census of April 1861 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the wife of Hutchinson Gresham.1 Her husband Hutchinson died on 5 August 1861 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.2,3 Ann was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, Ann had a friend visiting and two servants and is listed as living on interest of money.4 Ann died on 1 April 1875 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.3,5 Ann was buried on 5 April 1875 in St Mattew, Chapel Allerton, Yorkshire, England.6 Her estate was probated on 31 May 1875 in Wakefield by John Barran a merchant and her son Joseph Gresham a pawnbroker from Leeds. His effects were valued at under £3,000.3

Joseph Gresham

     Joseph Gresham was born about 1840 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Hutchinson Gresham and Ann Pyatt. In the census of April 1861 in Spencer Villa, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Hutchinson Gresham Joseph is a pawn broker.1 He married Fanny Pullon on 7 September 1862 in St Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, after a licence had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Pullen and Amelia Pullen. Joseph was described as a silversmith like his father Hutchinson Gresham. Fanny's father Thomas Pullen was a commercial traveller. Joseph gave his address as Spencer Place and Fanny as Brunswick Place.2 Joseph was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Grove Villas, Headingley, Yorkshire, England, Joseph was a pawn broker living with his wife and children, Tom aged 7, Fanny aged 5, Gertrude abged 3 and Herbert aged 1.3 Joseph was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 3 Headingly Terrace, Headingley, Yorkshire, England, Joseph was a jeweller living with his wife and children Thomas H age 17, Gertrude age 13, Herbert aged 11, Percy aged 9 and Ernest A aged 5 with two servants, a general servant and a nurse.4 Joseph died in 1882 in Headingly Terrace, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.5,6 Joseph was buried on 10 April 1882 in St Michael, Headingley, Yorkshire, England.6

Fanny Pullon

     Fanny Pullon was baptised on 7 May 1841 in Acomb, Yorkshire, England, her parents were Thomas and Sarah Pullon.1 She married Joseph Gresham, son of Hutchinson Gresham and Ann Pyatt, on 7 September 1862 in St Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, after a licence had been issued. Her effects were valued at £3,49 1s 10d.10
