     Ethels father William Presfold was a priest, initailly in Kent then Dorset. She and Frederick had two sons went to America and four daughters.1,2 Ethel F D Ponsford was born in Kent, England.1 She married Frederick Alexander Don on 31 October 1906 in Mandalay, Burma.3,4

Joan Eagle

     Joan Eagle was born about 1896.1 She was the daughter of Piercy James Eagle and Annie Dickie Tweddle. She married Walter Robinson Greathead, son of Walter Horatio Greathead and Rosa Louise Candy, on 4 June 1932 in Christ Church, Arcadia, Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by R P Stephens and J W Greathead. Walter was described as an assistant engineer for the Provincial Roads Department and gave his address as 625 Pretoria Street in Pretoria and Joan lived at 799 Schoeman Street in Pretoria.2

     Percival Thomas Stephenson was born on 8 May 1896.3 He was the son of William Bigger Stephenson.3 He married Constance Eileen Greathead, daughter of Walter Horatio Greathead and Rosa Louise Candy, on 8 February 1927 Constance was a teacher.2,3 Percival died on 5 February 1972 aged 75.3

     Francis Percival Stephenson was born on 29 November 1927 in Whitbank, South Africa.3 He was the son of Percival Thomas Stephenson and Constance Eileen Greathead. Francis moved to Rhodesia in the 1950's. The country of Rhodesia changed its name to Zimbabwe when it became independent in1980.3 He married Bessie Cosgove Somers on 20 December 1958.3 Francis died on 25 September 2001 in Harare, Zimbabwe, South Africa, aged 73 Francis had been a science graduate from Rhodes university in South Africa and worked as a civil servant for many years in Rhodesia and Zimbabwe. He had a strong engineering bent and would enjoy spending endless hours in his workshop making various devices and contraptions.3

She married Percival Wright Greathead, son of Henry Percival Greathead and Emily Elizabeth Stanton, on 7 August 1935 in Knysna, Cape Province, South Africa.1 Her husband Percival died on 8 March 1982 in Knysna, Cape Province, South Africa, aged 77.1 Atherlie died on 5 February 1999 in Knysna, Cape Province, South Africa, aged 86.1

Richard Norman Greathead
     Richard Norman Greathead was born on 3 July 1936 in Nelspruit, Transvaal, South Africa.3,4 He was the son of Percival Wright Greathead and Atherlie Beryl Broster. He married Elizabeth Frederika Doreen Flood-Murphy on 6 August 1959 in Blackheath, Kent, England.5,3 Richard states that his family left Bristol for South Africa in 1820. Being slow thinkers it took us until 1978 to decide we did not like it there.6 His son Richard was killed when an unlicenced driver in a stolen bus rammed the family car. His wife was fortumately ok but he, Richard spent a month in intensive care before making a full recovery.6,3 Richard died on 3 January 2023 in Musgrave Park Hospital, Taunton, Somerset, England, aged 86 surrounded by his wife and daughters, he had been very ill for many years. He and his family had moved to Trull in Somerset when they left South Africa.7,8,9

Halley Harwin Stott
     Halley Harwin Stott was born on 15 May 1910 in Bady-Ruel, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.2,3 He married Joyce Greathead, daughter of Henry Percival Greathead and Emily Elizabeth Stanton, on 4 August 1934 in Natal, Durban, South Africa.4,5 His wife Joyce died on 2000 in South Africa.4
In 1948 Dr Halley Stott who came from three generations of missionaries and teachers, bought 150 acres of land on a hilltop in the Valley of a Thousand Hills.

He overcame such challenges as hazardous dirt roads, the lack of medical and nursing services - apart from traditional healers - and a lack of water and electricty; to build a health centre.

In 2001 on the fiftyieth anniversay of its opening, Dr Halley Stott and his son Professor Nigel Stott were guests of honour at the celebrations with over 500 people attending.2 Halley died on 13 June 2004 aged 94 Halley was a doctor, MD Edin, FRCP, and Founder of Valley Trust.3,4
