     John Walker was born about 1780 in South Cowton, Yorkshire, England.1 He married Mary Greathead, daughter of Thomas Greathead and Elizabeth Medcalf, on 30 March 1815 in South Cowton, Yorkshire, England.2 John was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 June 1841 in Aldborough, Yorkshire, England, John was described as an agricutulral labourer living with his wife and children.3 John was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Aldborough, Yorkshire, England, John is surprisingly described as a land proprietor living with his wife, two of his children and grandaughter Allison Young aged 10 and a scholar.4 John died before 1861.1

     Mary Greathead married Francis Priestman, son of George Priestman and Mary Alderson, on 2 October 1828 in St Edwin, Coniscliffe, Yorkshire, England, by licence with consent of parents. The ceremony was withnessed by Margaret Nicholson and Thomas Hetherington.
