Ethel Kate Edwards was born on 15 October 1905 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.1 She was the daughter of Albert Edwards and Phoebe Hardy. She married Leslie Alfred Mercer, son of Levi Mercer and Lillie Bull, on 27 November 1933 in St Mary the Virgin, Shalford, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Albert Edwards and Edwin Mercer. Leslie was a chauffeur living in Heatherlot at Blackheath. His father Levi was also a chauffeur. Ethel lived at 31 New Road in Chilworth, her father Albert Edwards was a market gardener.2 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Ethel was listed as living at 34 New Road, Chilworth, Surrey, England, with her husband Leslie. Leslie was a skilled motor mechanic.3 She died in May 1988 in Surrey, England, at age 82.4
