James Henry Crane was born on 2 January 1872 in Willesden, Middlesex, England. He married Harriet Jane Norris, daughter of Richard James Norris and Harriet Ings, on 25 December 1894 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. Whether James and Mabel went through a marriage ceremony is uncertain. On 29 September 1939 in the National Register James was listed as living at 24 Darland Avenue, Gillingham, Kent, England, with his wife Mabel. James was a retired railway inspector.5 He died on 28 January 1948 in 24 Darland Avenue, Gillingham, Kent, England, at age 76.6,4 His estate was probated on 11 March 1948 in London to Mabel Sophia Crane his widow. His effects were valued at £786 3s 11d.4
