He was baptised on 9 August 1891 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of Charles William Saunders and Edith Saunders in the 1901 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England.4 The Surrey Advertiser reported that Algernon had recently had a remarkable wescape from drowning. Since the commencement of the war he had been serving on a minesweeper whch struck a mine and sank in a few minutes.5 He died in 1930 in Ireland Island, Bermuda, he was a leading sick bay attendant in Royal Navy Hospital.2,6 He was buried on 8 July 1930 in Royal Navy Cemetery, Ireland Island, Bermuda.2,6
