     James Thomas Vincent was born on 25 June 1874 in Albury, Surrey, England, he was registered as James.2,3,4 He was the son of Thomas Vincent and Eveline Attfield.1 He was baptised on 27 September 1878 in St Peter and St Paul, Albury, Surrey, England, Thomas was baptised at the same time as his sister Frances.3 He appeared in the 1881 census in Hambledon Workhouse, Godalming, Surrey, England. Their father had died in 1878 and their mother earlier that year.5 He appeared as a lodger in the 1891 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England. With George and Fanny Court, he was a plasterers assistant.6 He was the brother of Charles Vincent and Henrietta Elizabeth Vincent in the 1911 census in Church Cottage, Shere, Surrey, England. James was a pressman in the Gunpowder factory.7 James was a Sergeant, 7th Battalion, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), 55 Brigade, 18th (Eastern) Division. Army no. S/753.8 He died on 1 July 1916 in France at age 42 He was killed in action in the Battle for Albert.8 He was buried He is buried in grave III H 7, Beacon Cemetery, Sailly Laurette.8

The family lived at 25 South Street in Guildford and his father was a labourer.3 He was the son of Jesse Vincent and Hannah Vincent in the 1901 census in 1 Milkhouse Gate, Guildford, Surrey, England.4 Jesse was listed and struck out on the family 1911 census. It said he was a soldier.5
