Their father had died in 1878 and their mother earlier that year.5 He appeared as a lodger in the 1891 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England. With George and Fanny Court, he was a plasterers assistant.6 He was the brother of Charles Vincent and Henrietta Elizabeth Vincent in the 1911 census in Church Cottage, Shere, Surrey, England. James was a pressman in the Gunpowder factory.7 James was a Sergeant, 7th Battalion, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), 55 Brigade, 18th (Eastern) Division. Army no. The family lived at 25 South Street in Guildford and his father was a labourer.3 He was the son of Jesse Vincent and Hannah Vincent in the 1901 census in 1 Milkhouse Gate, Guildford, Surrey, England.4 Jesse was listed and struck out on the family 1911 census. It said he was a soldier.5
