William was a Metropolitan Police Constable.5 The Kings Police Medal was awarded to Constable William Longhurst for saving a man's life at the risk of his own. The London Gazette said' Rescued a man overcome by gas in a sewer. Longhurst went down and fastened a rope round the unconscious man, who was drawn out. He was almost overcome, but got out without help.6 He received the probate of the estate of Gertrude Longhurst on 2 June 1947 in London with his brother Samuel a painter and decorator. Gertrudes effects were valued at £349 7s 4d.7 He received the probate of the estate of Ursula Longhurst on 19 June 1947 with his brother Samuel a painter and decorator. He was baptised on 6 December 1857 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.2 He was the son of Henry Longhurst and Mary Ann Longhurst in the 1861 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England.3 He was a son of Henry Longhurst and Mary Ann Longhurst in the 1871 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England.4 He was the son of Henry Longhurst and Mary Ann Longhurst in the 1881 census in The Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England. Samuel was a bricklayers labourer.5 He married Ursula Lomas on 2 December 1882 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Reuben Lemon and Ellen Mercer. Samuel was a porter. His father Henry was a labourer.
