William was a Metropolitan Police Constable.5 The Kings Police Medal was awarded to Constable William Longhurst for saving a man's life at the risk of his own. The London Gazette said' Rescued a man overcome by gas in a sewer. Longhurst went down and fastened a rope round the unconscious man, who was drawn out. He was almost overcome, but got out without help.6 He received the probate of the estate of Gertrude Longhurst on 2 June 1947 in London with his brother Samuel a painter and decorator. Gertrudes effects were valued at £349 7s 4d.7 He received the probate of the estate of Ursula Longhurst on 19 June 1947 with his brother Samuel a painter and decorator.
