Walter Shuckburgh Hearn was born on 26 June 1921 in Wandsworth, London, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Hugh Shuckburgh Hearn and Frances Lutton Trotter. He received the probate of the estate of Claud Risley Hearn on 16 April 1943.4 Walter departed from London on 1 March 1951 bound for Sydney on Strathmore. He was a Naval Officer and his address was listed as 27 Davigdor Road in Hove.1 Walter returned leaving Sydney on 7 June 1959 bound for London on the SS Strathnore.5 He died in January 2007 in Barking, Essex, England, at age 85.6

Claud Risley Hearn was born on 5 May 1918 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.1,2 He was the son of Hugh Shuckburgh Hearn and Frances Lutton Trotter. He was baptised on 5 June 1918 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, His father was a Major in Royal Gunners Artillary.3 Claud signed on as an apprentice in Glasgow on 9 October 1936. He later became 4th mate R210009 and was described as being 5 foot 4½ inches tall, with blue eyes, dark brown hair and a fresh complexion. He had a scar on his right wrist. He served initially on SS Phenius, then SS Bellerophon and later SS Calchin from 8 November 1939 to 23 August 1940 when he joined SS Tidan and later SS Nilius on 24 October 1940.1 He died on 27 October 1942 in 27 Davigdor Road, Hove, Sussex, England, at age 24 He is commemorated on The Tower Hill Memorial Part VII Har-Hys Panel 101 and was a third Officer in the Merchant Navy on MV Stentor. MV Stentor was a British Cargo Motor Vessel of 6,148 tons built in 1926. On 27 October 1942 when on route from LAGOS & FREETOWN for LIVERPOOL in Convoy Sl-125 and carrying a cargo of about 6,000 tons of west african produce when she was torpedoed by German submarine U-509 and sunk NW of the Canary Islands. 44 persons lost from a total of 235. The Stentor (Master William Williams) was the ship of the Vice-Commodore Capt Richard Hart Garstin CBE RNR and was carrying 125 passengers, including 26 army personnel, 11 nursing sisters and six naval staff members.
The master, the Vice-Commodore, 20 crew members, three army personnel, 4 nurses and 15 passengers were lost. 93 crew members, seven gunners and 107 passengers were picked up by HMS Woodruff (K 53) (LtCdr F.H. Gray) and landed at Milford Haven, but on the way 100 survivors were transferred to HMS Ramsey (G 60) (LtCdr R.B. Stannard VC) and landed at Liverpool.
Claud's home address was 27 Davigdor Road in Hove in Sussex.4,5,6,7
His estate was probated on 16 April 1943 in Llandudno. Administration papers were issued to Sub Lieutenant Walter Shuckburgh Hearn (E) RN. His estate was valued at £573 8s 2d.5
