     Richard James Shepard was born on 3 June 1844 in St Pancras, London, England.1 He was the son of Robert Howard Shepard and Alicia Dunkin. He was baptised on 12 July 1844 in St Pancras, Camden, London, England, his father was a merchant and the family lived in Tavistock Square.1 He was the son of Robert Howard Shepard and Alicia Shepard in the 1851 census in 34 Tavistock Square, St Pancras, London, England.2 He was the son of Robert Howard Shepard and Alicia Shepard in the 1861 census in 34 Tavistock Square, St Pancras, London, England.3 He was a son of Robert Howard Shepard and Alicia Shepard in the 1871 census in 34 Tavistock Square, St Pancras, London, England. Richard was an underwriter at Lloyds.4 He received the probate of the estate of Robert Howard Shepard on 19 September 1871.5 He was the son of Alicia Shepard in the 1881 census in 53 Gordon Square, Pancras, London, England. Richard was a Lloyds underwriter.6 He died on 8 February 1883 in San Remo, Italy, at age 38 late of 53 Gordon Square and an underwirter.5 His estate was probated on 8 February 1883 at the Principal Registry by his brother Robert Howard Shepard of 25 Russell Square. His effects were valued at £10,495 1s 10d and resworn in December 1883 at £9,497 19s 3d.5

     John Stemp was born in 1882 in Redhill, Surrey, England. He was the son of George Stemp and Charity Ann Williams. He was the son of George Stemp and Charity Ann Stemp in the 1891 census in Lanskeably, West Chiltington, Sussex, England.1 He appeared in the 1901 census in Chichester Barracks, Sussex, England. John was serving in the Royal Sussex Regiment.2 Charity received £5 8s 9d in war gratuity on 2 December 1916, John received a similar amount on 26 January 1917. They both received further payments of £4 5s on 17 October 1919 regarding the death of their son and brother Frederick Albert Stemp.3

     Frederick Albert Stemp was born in 1884 in Redhill, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of George Stemp and Charity Ann Williams. He was the son of George Stemp and Charity Ann Stemp in the 1891 census in Lanskeably, West Chiltington, Sussex, England.2 He was the son of George Stemp and Charity Ann Stemp in the 1901 census in Goblins Cottage, Thatcham, Sussex, England. Frederick was a carter on the farm.3 Frederick enlisted in Chichester on 10 May 1906 into the 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment L/8472. He was 5 foot 8 inches tall and weighed 145 lbs and has a chest measurement of 35 inches. He had a fresh complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair and a tattoo of a woman's head and wreath on his left forearm.4 Lance Corporal Frederick Stemp died on 30 June 1916 in France killed in action.5 Frederick is remembered on The Arras Memorial at Faubourg-D´Amiens Cemetery, Arras.6,7

     Ada Emily Goater was born in 1887 in Brentford, London, England.1 She married Ernest Henry Lemon, son of Reuben William Lemon and Ruth Ellen Mercer, on 3 July 1915 in St George, Brentford, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Henry Goater, Lionel Goosey , Alice Goater and Ellen Lemon. Ernest was a Police Constable and his father Reuben Lemon a gun powder maker. Ada's father James Goater was deceased but had been a gas maker.2 She died in 1936 in Brentford, London, England.3
