He joined 108th Brigade RFA on 27 October 1917, and was then transferred to 'B' Battery, 291st Brigade RFA, 58th (London) Division on 14 June 1918, before returning to 108th Bde on 09 March 1919 to serve in Germany from 14 April 1919. He then went on to serve with 'A' Battery, 74th Bde and 'A' Battery, 51st Bde RFA from 7 November1919 before he returned to the UK on 19 February 1920 and was transferred to Z Class Reserve on 20 February 1920 for demobilisation. He was awarded British War Medall and the Victory Medal.¹ He married Ivy Lucy Parsons, daughter of George William Parsons and Lucy Tidy, in 1924 in Guildford, Surrey, England.² On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Francis was listed as living at Pasturewood Cottage, Dorking, Surrey, England, with his wife Ivy.
