Edgar was a Techinical instructor living with his wife and son.4 Edgar and Ellen lived in Downside on Wonersh Common from 1928 until Edgar's death in 1940. Edgar was a keen bowls player playing for Wonersh village bowls team and Castle Green club in Guildford.5,6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Edgar was listed as living at Downside, Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England, with his wife Ellen. Edgar was a retired handicraft instructor.7 He died on 8 January 1940 in Downside, Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 73 Edgar's deathw as reported in The Surrey Advertiser.8,9,6 The funeral of Edgar Fillis took place on 12 January 1940 in Brighton, Sussex, England, and his body was interred in the family vault.6 His estate was probated on 7 February 1940 in London to Ellen Fillis his widow. His effects were valued at £902 8s 5d.9

Gilbert Edwin Bodkin was born on 29 July 1886 in The Elms, Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England.1,2 He was the son of Frederick Edwin Bodkin and Louise Jane Gibson. He was baptised on 1 September 1886 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, his father was an artist.3 Gilbert was a keen photographer and went to Jesus College in Cambridge in 1901-1905.4,2 He was the son of Frederick Edwin Bodkin and Louise Jane Bodkin in the 1901 census in 98 Fellow Road, Hampstead, London, England.5 Gilbert sailed on 'Magdalena' on 24 May 1911 from Southampton bound for Demerara.6 He returned to the UK arriving on 25 May 1914 in Southampton on board 'Oruba'. He was described as a biologist.7 Gilbert was a civil servant and sailed from Tilbury on board the ship called 'Trent' bound for Demerara in British Guyana.8,6 He sailed to London on 28 April 1920 on board 'Quillota'. He was described as an Agriculturist and gave his address in the UK as 5a High Street, St Johns Wood in London NW.7 He married Kathleen Marguerite ...6 Gilbert and Kathleen sailed on 9 September 1920 from Dover on board 'Van Rensselaer' bound for Trinidad and Tobago.6 Gilbert arrived in London on 18 April 1922 on board 'Intaba', travelling first class from British Guyana. He was the Asistant Director of Agriculture and gave his address as 5a High Street, St Johns Wood.7 He married Dorothy C Benjamin in 1924 in Marylebone, London, England.9 Gilbert left Southampton on 28 September 1934 on board 'Carnarvon Castle' bound for Mauritius, he was listed as a Director aged 46.6 Gilbert and Dorothy sailed from Southampton on 27 May 1938 on 'Balmoral Castle' bound for South Africa. They gave their address as 3873 Finchley Road NW3, the ships manifest they planned to return to UK.6 Gilbert was awarded the OBE in 1942.4 Gilbert and Dorothy left Port Said in Egypt on board 'Almanzora' arriving in Southampton on 28 March 1947. They stated they had been resident in Mauritius. Gilbert was a civil servant and gave his address in the UK as c/o Colonial Office, Downing Street in London.7 Gilbert and Dorothy travelled first class on 'Capetown Castle' leaving Southampton on 21 August 1947 bound for South Africa. They gave their address as 48 Greenfield Gardens in London NW2.6 He died in 1955 in South Africa.10
