     William John Grady was born on 4 May 1899 in Bermondsey, London, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Michael Grady and Emily Mary McSweeney.1 He was the son of Michael Grady and Emily Mary Grady in the 1901 census in 67 Drummond Road, Bermondsey, London, England.4 He was the son of Michael Grady and Emily Mary Grady in the 1911 census in 67 Drummond Road, Bermondsey, London, England.5 William enlisted for the duration of the war in Guildford on 12 May 1917. He was Private 536746 in 15th Battalion London Regiment - Prince of Wales' Own Civil Service Rifles. He was five foot four inches tall, weighed 112 lbs and a chest measurement of 32 inches. He gave his mother Mrs M Grady of 67 Drummond Road in Bermondsay as his next of kin. He was an Ecclesiastical Student. He served at home until he was posted to 6th London Regiment and went with them to France on 6 August 1918, sailing from Folkestone to Bologne on 9 August.2 He died on 31 August 1918 in France at age 19.1 Grave reference VII.F.32.1 His name also appears on the Plaque in the chapel in St Johns Seminary.6

     Thomas May was born circa 1863 in Reading, Berkshire, England.2 He lived with Rose Reffold, daughter of James Reffold and Elizabeth Bicknell, I don't think they ever married.1 He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in Heath Lane, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, England. Thomas was a general labourer living with his 'wife' and children who were listed as Elizabeth and Arthur.3 He died before 1913.1

Sisters Rose, Annie and Emily were all housemaids at the school.6 She lived with Thomas May I don't think they ever married.1 She was the wife of Thomas May in the 1901 census in Heath Lane, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, England. Thomas was a general labourer living with his 'wife' and children who were listed as Elizabeth and Arthur.7 She appeared in the 1911 census in The Refuge, Grosvenor Road, Aldershot, Hampshire, England.      Thomas Arthur May was born in 1898 in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, England.1,2 He was the son of Thomas May and Rose Reffold.1 He was the son of Thomas May and Rose May in the 1901 census in Heath Lane, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, England.3 Elizabeth, William and Thomas were all living in the school and listed as inmates in 1911 census for Farnham and Hartley Wintney School for paupers. Their mother was working as a domestic servant and was living in The Refuge, Grosvenor Road, Aldershot for Anne Avery who was the Lady Superindendent of a Home for girls.4 He drowned on 14 October 1917 while serving on SS Semantha as an able seaman and Mercantile Marine. SS Semantha was torpedoed and sunk on the 14 October 1917, whilst some 10 miles off the coast of Crete by a German submarine uc-74 whilst on a voyage from Liverpool with a cargo of Government stores. Thirty-two lives were lost.1,5,6 He is remembered on Tower Hill Memorial alongside the other crew members.1

     William Rufus Bicknell was born on 22 October 1884 in Hambledon, Surrey, England.1 He was baptised on 7 December 1884 in St Nicolas, Cranleigh, Surrey, England, His parents were Caroline and Rosetta Bicknell according to Ancestry - two ladies?2 He married Rose Reffold, daughter of James Reffold and Elizabeth Bicknell, in 1913 in Guildford, Surrey, England, Rose married using the surname of Reffold.3 William was a driver no 207090 in the Royal Field Artillary during WW1 and he appears in the Wonersh Parish Magazines from May 1917 as serving for his country.4,5 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register William was listed as living at Primrose Cottage, The Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England, with his wife Rose. William was a gardener living with his wife.6 His wife Rose died in 1959 in Primrose Cottage, The Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England.7,8 He died in 1968 in Burpham Homes, Burpham, Surrey, England.7,9 He was buried on 11 September 1968 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, in plot 812 after a service in St John the Baptist in Wonersh.7

     Alfred May was born circa 1847. He married Elizabeth Bicknell on 10 June 1867 in St James, Elstead, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by George May and Joanna May. Alfred was a labourer, his father was listed as unknown although the name George Cover a labourer appears to have been added later. Elizabeth's father Frederick Reffold was a labourer. Both Alfred and Elizabeth lived in Elstead.1

The ceremony was witnessed by Stephen Sleet and Susan Sleet. Harold was a bricklayer and his father James Reffold was a gamekeeper. Naomii's father George Hicks was a labourer. Both Harold and Naomi came from Addlestone.5 He witnessed the death of Naomi who died in 1905 in Chobham, Surrey, England.6

Job was a gamekeeper.6 Job enlisted into the 6th Hants Regiment as Private no 98192 on 28 February 1916 at Hartley Wintney and was described as a game keeper being five foot three inches tall with a chest measurement of 36 inches. His father was James Reffold of Wilks Water in Odiham. Despite having a flat right foot he was declared fit for service at home and abroad. He spent some time in the field hospital and then 6 weeks in the Mile End Military Hospital, Brancroft Road in London with a lacerated wound to fingers of left hand, leaving on 15 August 1917.7

The ceremony was witnessed by Charles Puttock and Emily Jane Newman. George was a house decorator and his father William Newman a labourer. Both George and Elizabeth lived in Holloway Hill in Godalming. Elizabeth's father Henry was listed as deceased and a labourer.
