The ceremony was witnessed by James Arthur Puddick and Henry Mercer. Sydney was a painter, his father John had died but was a gardener.      George Sidney Raggett was born on 24 December 1890 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.1,2 He was the son of John Raggett and Rose Matilda Mercer.1 He was baptised on 8 February 1891 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, His father was a gardener.1 He was the son of John Raggett and Rose Matilda Raggett in the 1891 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of John Raggett and Rose Matilda Raggett in the 1901 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England.4 He appeared in the household as a boarder of Henry James Mercer and Mabel Thirza Mercer in the 1911 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England. George was a domestic gardener.5 He married Mercy Emily Lawrence in October 1914 in Petworth, Sussex, England.6 George enlisted into the 6th Dorset Regiment as Private 22352, rising through the ranks. As Lance Corporal attachd to the Eyptian Expeditionary Force he had a marvellous escape. He was on board a ship which was torpedoed, transferred to a second ship which was also torpedoed the same day, and was one of only five who were saved. He was discharged on 27 March 1919.7,8 His wife Mercy died in 1927 in Blackheath, Surrey, England.9 He married Christobel Elizabeth Latter in 1933 in Wandsworth, London, England. On 29 September 1939 in the National Register George was listed as living at 31 Geraldine Road, Wandsworth, London, England, with his wife Christobel. George was a builders carpenter.10 He died in December 1979 in Surrey, England.11

     George Isaac Simms was born in 1892 in Chessington, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of William Simms and Catherine Amelia Millard. He was the son of William Simms and Catherine Amelia Simms in the 1901 census in Lockner Holt Cottages, Chilworth, Surrey, England.2 He was the son of William Simms and Catherine Amelia Simms in the 1911 census in Lockner Holt Cottages, Chilworth, Surrey, England. George was a factory hand.3 George enlisted in the Royal West Sussex Regiment with an army number of 315152. This was an infantry regiment.4 He married Ivy Mabel Raggett, daughter of John Raggett and Rose Matilda Mercer, on 12 July 1919 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by George Sydney Raggett and Rose Matilda Raggett. George was a chauffeur from St Martha's his father William was a stockman. Ivy was from Wonersh, her father John had been a gardener and was deceased.5,6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register George was listed as living at Green Lane Bungalow, Green Lane, Guildford, Surrey, England, with his wife Ivy.
