     Samuel Longhurst was born on 3 November 1895 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Samuel Longhurst and Ursula Lomas. He was baptised on 5 September 1897 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, along with his sister Alice and a second baptism for Ethel Mary. His father was a mechanic.2 He was the son of Samuel Longhurst and Ursula Longhurst in the 1901 census in The Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of Samuel Longhurst and Ursula Lomas in the 1911 census in Wonersh, Surrey, England. Samuel was a grocers errand boy.4 Gunner Samuel Longhurst RGA who had suffered severely from shell shock, is making sure, if slow progress towards recovery to health. He has been for some time in the hospital in Grove Lane, Camberwell, which was hit by a bomb during an air raid soon after he went there, and his illness in its earlier stages was aggravated by that misfortune.5 He married Winifred Mary Mann, daughter of James Mann and Mary Jane Ford, on 26 December 1929 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by James Mann and Sydney George Longhurst. Samuel was a labourer his father also Samuel was a jobbing gardener. Winifred came from Shalford and her father James was retired.6,7 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Samuel was listed as living at Sunnybank, Barnett Lane, Wonersh, Surrey, England, with his wife Winifred. Samuel was a painter and decorator, and Senior ARP Warden. Winifred's brother was with them, he was a printer machine minder.8 He received the probate of the estate of Gertrude Longhurst on 2 June 1947 in London with his brother William James a fibre worker. Her effects were valued at £349 7s 4d.9 He received the probate of the estate of Ursula Longhurst on 19 June 1947 with his brother William James a fibre worker. Her estate was valued at £290.9 Samuel and Winifred left New York on 4 September on board Queen Elizabeth bound for Southampton. They gave their address as Sunnybank, Barnett Lane in Wonersh. Samuel stated he was a painter and decorator.10 His wife Winifred died in 1980 in Surrey, England.11 He died on 21 June 1982 in Sunnybank, Barnett Lane, Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 86.12,13 His estate was probated on 12 August 1982 in Winchester. His effects were valued at £45,775.13
