     Alfred Hampshire was born on 27 January 1880 in Dunsfold, Surrey, England.1,2 He was the son of Henry Hampshire and Mary Lawrence.3 He was the son of Henry Hampshire and Mary Hampshire in the 1881 census in Rushett Common, Grafham, Surrey, England.4 He was the son of Mary Hampshire in the 1891 census in Rushett Common, Grafham, Surrey, England.5 He was the son of Mary Hampshire in the 1901 census in Rushett Common, Grafham, Surrey, England. Alfred was a bricklayers labourer.6 He married Alice Valler, daughter of Henry Valler, on 26 December 1904 in St Andrew, Grafham, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by John Valler and Mary Hampshire. Alfred was a labourer like his father Henry as was Alice's father also called Henry.1 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in Rushett Common, Grafham, Surrey, England. Alfred was a bricklayers labourer living with his wife and three children. They had lost one child before 1911. John Valler listed as Uncle aged 74 and born in Witley was staying with them. His occupation was listed as Private Income Retired Valet.7 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Alfred was listed as living at 2 Rushett Common, Bramley, Surrey, England, with his wife Alice. Alfred was a yard foreman in vulcanised fibre.8 His wife Alice died in 1944 in Surrey, England.9 He died on 29 October 1944 in 2 Rushett Common, Bramley, Surrey, England, at age 64.10,11 His estate was probated on 29 October 1944 Administration papers were issued in Llandudno to William John Hampshire nursery foreman and Violet Doris Hampshire a spinster. His effects were valued at £344 1s 6d.11

     Eleanor Winifred Chitty was born on 3 May 1914 in Cranleigh, Surrey, England.1,2 She was the daughter of Charles Chitty and Edith Mary Rice. She married Donald Walter Tagg, son of Walter Thomas Tagg and Olive Kate Attfield, in 1938 in Surrey, England.3 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Eleanor was listed as living at Ocala, New Road, Wonersh, Surrey, England, with her husband Donald. Donald was a bakers van driver his wife Eleanor was a Bookeeper (Grocer). I understand Donald bought Ocala in New Road for £350.4,5 Donald was initially reported as missing He had been captured by the Japanese on 15 February 1942 with his brother Charles Floyd Tagg, they were interred in Malai camp in Thailand. Donald's wife Eleanor it seems was not informed until 7 January 1943. She was relieved to have news and judging by the way the POWs were treated in Wonersh she thought he would be safe.5 Two postcards received from Donald while he was a POW.5 Her husband Donald died on 30 July 1943 in Ocala, New Road, Wonersh, Surrey, England.6,7,8 She married Alfred Edward Thompson on 2 March 1946 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Charles Chitty and Charles Castle Foremaur. Alfred was a grocer, his father Albert Edward Thompon was deceased and had been a gardener. Eleanor's father was Charles Chitty who was a wholesaler.9,10 Around 1978 Alfred and Eleanor lived in Seabrook, I New Road in Wonersh.11 Alfred and Eleanor moved to 6 Diamond Cottages in 1982.5 Her husband Alfred died in June 1983 in Surrey, England.5,12 She died on 8 September 2012 in 6 Diamond Cottages, Barnett Lane, Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 98.5,13 Her body was cremated at 4pm on 21 September 2012 in Guildford Crematorium, Godalming, Surrey, England, after a service in Wonersh United Reformed Church at 3pm. Friends were invited afterwards to The Parrot Public House in Shalford. Donations were invited to be sent to Shooting Star Chase Childrens Hospice. Her ashes are in plot 337 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery.13,14 A memorial service was held in in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, on 1 December 2012.15
