     Anna Elizabeth Donahoo was born on 18 February 1905 in Hendon, London, England.1,2 She was the daughter of Malcolmson Gardiner Donahoo and Annie Burlison. Annie and her daughter were listed the electoral lists for 1929 -35 as living in The Cottage in Wonersh it is thought this is the house that is currently called Roker in the Street.3 She married Leslie Alfred Powell on 1 June 1937 in St Cuthberts Church, Fordwych Road, Hampstead, London, England, Leslie was an assistant export manager for Meltonian living at 4 Mill Lane, West Hampstead. Anna lived at Wonersh. The ceremony was witnessed by Annie Donahoo (Annas mother) and Alfred Henry Powell (Leslie's father.)4,5 She appeared on the census of 29 September 1939 in the household in Meadows Riversdale, Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, She was staying with a widow lady Elsie Fleming-Williams who was listed as ARP BRCS Reserve. Anna like her mother was a BRCS VAD Specialist. Her husband was serving in the forces.6 She died on 15 October 1942 in St Thomas Hospital, Hyde Stile, Surrey, England, at age 37 while working as a VAD at Great Down Convalescent Home in Seale. The ceremony was witnessed by Annie Donahoo (Annas mother) and Alfred Henry Powell (Leslie's father.)3,1 Leslie enlisted into the army in May 1939 with the Ox and Bucks Light infantry as a Ws/LT. He was commissioned 9 March 1940 and went to France with the B.E.F. He was captured by the Germans in June that year.1 His wife Anna died on 15 October 1942 in St Thomas Hospital, Hyde Stile, Surrey, England, He recieved this sad news whilst in a prisoner of war camp. The letter read: Harewood House, Leeds. 20 Nov 1942

He was baptised on 10 August 1890 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, his father was an engineer.3 He was the son of Albert Balchin and Lilias Georgina Balchin in the 1891 census in Blackheath, Surrey, England.4 He was the son of Albert Balchin and Lilias Georgina Balchin in the 1901 census in Green Lane, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.5 Ernest joined as a boy sailor in the Royal Navy sailing on Impregnable on 14 January 1915. He enlisted as a full sailor on 6 November 1916 for 12 years, serving until 26 April 1928.6 The Surrey Advertiser of 15 May 1916 reported that news had been received at Blackheath by Ernest's parents that he was among the saved from HMS Russell. He was a boy telegraphist.7 He married Catheriine Dorothy Strudwick in 1946 in Croydon, Surrey, England.8 From around 1951 until at least Ernest's death Ernest and Catherine lived at in West View, Stonards Brow, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.9 He died on 10 February 1964 in West View, Stonards Brow, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.10,11 His estate was probated on 17 March 1964 in London to his widow Catherine Dorothy Balchin and John Balchin a tile maker . The ceremony was witnessed by James Edwin Moore and Albert Balchin. Edwin Cecil Arthur as he was recorded on the register was listed as Trooper 1st CMR Canadian Expeditionary Force living in Chertsey. His father James Edwin was a photographer.4 She was the wife of Cecil Arthur Edwin Moore in the Canadian1921 census in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.5 Lilian travelled with her sons Tracey and John from Montreal in Canada to UK giving their address as Shamley Green, Guildford on board the ship Ausonia arriving in London on 23 April 1928. They sailed back to Canada leaving Southampton on 3 May 1929 on the ship Arania.6,7 She died in January 1984 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, at age 90.8

He stated he was a painter. He was 5 feet 4 inches tall, with a chest measurement of 34 inches. He had a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.6 He married Lillian Balchin, daughter of Albert Balchin and Lilias Georgina Head, on 1 December 1917 in St Martha on the Hill, Chilworth, Surrey, England, after a licence had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by James Edwin Moore and Albert Balchin. Edwin Cecil Arthur as he was recorded on the register was listed as Trooper 1st CMR Canadian Expeditionary Force living in Chertsey. She was the daughter of Albert Balchin and Lilias Georgina Balchin in the 1901 census in Green Lane, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.1 She died on 4 November 1912 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, Dorothy was a parlourmaid employed at Albury. Sadly she was discovered hanging from a tree on the tennis lawn of her employer. She left a note for her mother.2,3,4 She was buried on 9 November 1912 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, in plot 185 after a service in St John the Baptist in Wonersh.5 Albert, Lilias and Dorothy were buried under the same gravestone.6

He was baptised on 1 April 1860 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.2 He was the son of George Head and Miriam Broomfield in the 1861 census in Green Lane, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.3 He was a son of George Head and Martha Head in the 1871 census in Green Lane, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.4 He appeared in the 1881 census in Shalford House, Shalford, Surrey, England. William was a footman and one of 11 servants working for Robert and Maria Austen. Robert was the Deputy Lieutenant General for Surrey and a JP.5 He married Annie Mowbray on 28 November 1882 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by George Mowbray and Jannette Head. William was a leather drawer. Annie's father George was a tanner.6,7 He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in Tannery Cottages, Shalford, Surrey, England. William was a beam man at the tannery living with his wife and sons with one lodger.8 He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in Summersbury Tannery, Shalford, Surrey, England. William was a beam foreman at the tannery living with his wife.10 William was an amateur artist and painted many paintings of the Wonersh area, including Wonersh Hollow and Wonersh Village Club.11 There is a lovely picture of the family taken in 1914 at the rear of Shalford Tannery Cottages.12 His wife Annie died in 1921 in County Hospital, Guildford, Surrey, England.13,14 He died on 6 February 1927 in 6 St Georges Avenue, Newbury, Berkshire, England.15,16 He was buried on 21 February 1927 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, plot number 78 after a funeral service in St John the Baptist in Wonersh.17 His estate was probated on 22 April 1927 Administration papers with a will were issued in Oxford to William George Head a fitter. His effects were valued at £86.16
