The ceremony was witnessed by Elizabeth Hardy and Edi Powell. Edi Powell seems to have winessed many marriages in St Mary, so I guess was perhaps a church warden. Edward was a painter and his father Thomas Smith was a cordwainer. Ellen's father Joseph Akehurst was deceased, he had worked as a porter. Both Edward and Ellen gave their address as Regent Street.3 He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in York Villas, East Molesey, Surrey, England.
