He was the son of John Henry Hersey and Ellen Edwards in the 1891 census in 7 Mitchell Cottages, Blackheath, Surrey, England.2 He was the son of John Henry Hersey and Ellen Edwards in the 1901 census in 7 Mitchell Cottages, Blackheath, Surrey, England.3 Prior to joining the army Edgar worked as a baker. On 21 October 1907 he went to Guildford and enlisted into the Royal Field Arthillery in the same regiment as his brother George. Edgar's number was 48466. He was described as 5 foot 3 inches tall, weighing 133lbs with a chest measuremnt of 37 inches. He had grey eyes, dark hair and a fresh complexion.4 In 1911 Edgar was in the 61st Battery of the Royal Field Artillery as a driver.5 In 1914 he was part of the British Expeditionary Force sent to France at the start of the war.6 He married Eleanor Hicks in 1915 in Hereford, Herefordshire, England.7 Edgar was working as a fitters mate when he joined the Great Western Railway on 15 January 1920.8 He requested to be discharged and this was granted on 11 March 1920 and he was by then a Bombadier in the 1st Battalion Royal Field Artillery.6 He died on 29 November 1952 in The Bungalow, George Road, Knighton, Radnorshire, Wales, at age 63.9,10 His estate was probated on 21 May 1953 Administration papers were issued to his widow Eleanor. His effects were valued at £993 13s.10

Dorothy Lilian Christana Hersey was born on 25 March 1904. She was baptised on 30 April 1904 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, her mother lived in Blackheath and she is described as baseborn. She was the daughter of Allan Hatfield Tanner and Boswell Ellen Hersey. She was listed as the grandaughter of John Henry Hersey in the 1911 census in 7 Mitchell Cottages, Blackheath, Surrey, England.1 She married George Lemon, son of John Lemon and Charlotte Raggett, on 22 May 1926 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Allan Tanner and Edith Lemon. George was a bricklayer like his father John Lemon. Dorothy's father Allan Tanner was a labourer.2 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Dorothy Lilian Christana Hersey was listed as living at 53 New Road, Chilworth, Surrey, England, with her mother in law, husband and children.3

Arthur Maxwell Hersey was baptised on 14 September 1884 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, his father was a labourer and the family lived in Wonersh. He was the son of John Henry Hersey and Ellen Edwards. He was the son of John Henry Hersey and Ellen Edwards in the 1891 census in 7 Mitchell Cottages, Blackheath, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of John Henry Hersey and Ellen Edwards in the 1901 census in 7 Mitchell Cottages, Blackheath, Surrey, England. Arthur worked in the gunpowder factory.2 He died in 1934 in Lewisham, London, England. He was buried on 25 June 1934 in Wonersh and Blackheath Cemetery, Wonersh, Surrey, England, in plot 262.
