Flight Officer Gerald Paterson RN received his flying certificate while in a Maurice Farman biplane at the Royal Navy Air Station in Eastbourne.⁵ He married Margaret Ward in 1933 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.⁶ On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Gerald was listed as living at 124 London Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, Gerald was a medical practitioner, he was listed as married.⁷ He did hospital service in the blitz until 1941, when he joined the RAF and was a member of the Advance Party during the invasion of Europe.
