William Beechey

William Beechey was born on 12 December 1753 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England, he was the son of William Beechey and Hannah Read, who both died when he was still quite young. He and his siblings were brought up by his Uncle Samuel. He married Mary Ann Jones circa 1772 William and Mary had five children, Emma Amelia 1784-1859, Henry William 1788-4 August 1862, he was a british painter and egyptologist, Charles born 1799, Caroline born 1790 and Harriet born 1792.1 William was interested in painting from an early age, being admitted to the Royal Academy Schools in 1772. His wife Mary died circa 1793. William came to the notice of the royal family, and in 1793 painted a full-length picture of Queen Charlotte, who appointed him her official portrait painter. In the same year he was elected an associate of the Royal Academy. He painted not only the portraits of the royal family, but of nearly all the most famous or fashionable people of the time. His George III and the Prince of Wales reviewing troops a large composition showing the king and prince surrounded by a brilliant staff on horseback, was painted in 1798. It obtained for him the honour of knighthood, and his election as a full member of the Royal Academy. The painting was destroyed in the 1992 Windsor Castle fire. He married Ann Phillis Jessop in 1793 William and Ann had sixteen children, ann Phillis 1794 - December 1883, Frederick William 17 February 1796 - 29 November 1856 , he was a Royal Navy captain, geographer and politician, George Duncan 1798 - 6 December 1852, he was a painter, Anna Dodsworth born 1800, William Nelson 3 August 1901 - 1 August 1878, Charlotte Earl 3 August 1801 - 1 May 1878, Alfred born 24 June 1803, Richard Brydges 17 May 1808 - 14 March 1895, he was a painter and adniral in the British Navy, Jane Henrietta Frances born 19 December 1809, Augusta born 1812, Fredericka Anne born 1814, William Ernest born 1816, Frances born 1818, Phyllis born 820 and a daughter S R born 1822.2 Sir William Beechey painted Sir Fletcher Norton, Speaker of House of Commons.3 His wife Ann died on 14 December 1833. He died on 28 January 1839 in Edmonton, London, England, at age 85.4

St Vincent was the Vicar of Worsley and Honorary Canon of Manchester living with his wife and children and three servants.4 She died on 21 October 1888 in Downham, Norfolk, England.5,6 Her estate was probated on 8 June 1891 in the Principal Registry to Rev St Vincent Beechey of the Rectory the sole Executor. Her effects were valued at £257 19s 2d.6
