George was a domestic servant and footman.5 The story goes Lord Grantley who owned The Grantley Arms Public House. He was playing cards with his butler George Bird and he waged the pub and lost.6 He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Grantley Arms, The Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England. George was a licenced victualler living with his mother and sister who assisted him.7 He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in Grantley Arms, The Street, Wonersh, Surrey, England. George was a licenced victualler.8 He died on 4 September 1897 in St Martha's View, Chilworth Road, Shalford, Surrey, England, from hepatic cirrhosis from which he had suffered for three years and is a chronic degenerative disease of the liver and mitral regurgitation, which I understand is a leakage of blood backward through the mitral valve each time the left ventricle contracts. He was described as a retired licensed Victualler. His cousin Elizabeth Steer registered his death.9,10 He was buried on 8 September 1897 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.11 His estate was probated on 4 October 1897 in London to Miss Elizabeth Steere. His effects were valued at £986 15s 6d.10

     Frances Bessie Burlison was born on 2 July 1875 in St Pancras, London, England.1,2 She was the daughter of John Burlison and Elizabeth Sarah Grylls.1 Frances was always known as 'Blackie.3' She was the daughter of John Burlison and Elizabeth Sarah Burlison in the 1881 census in 33 Osney Crescent, St Pancras, London, England.4 Frances was educated at home by a governess and then attended the Slade School of Art where she studied sculpture, painting and design. She first exhibited works in 1898 with The Society of Lady Painters. Other works include the war memorial life size bronze figure collaborating with the architects Sir Giles and Adrian Gilbert Scott. Also the Reredos at Our Lady, Ramsey, Isle of Man. She also painted informal portraits and decorated furniture by painting still life scenes on them. Frances.3 She was the daughter of John Burlison and Elizabeth Sarah Burlison in the 1891 census Grove End House, St Pancras, London, England.5 She was the step daughter of John Whitaker and Elizabeth Sarah Whitaker in the 1901 census in Highworth House, Highworth Hill, Hendon, London, England. Bessie was an artist.6 She appeared in the household as a visitor of Malcolmson Gardiner Donahoo and Annie Donahoo in the 1911 census in Hobbs Farm, Oxted, Surrey, England. Malcolmson was a solicitor living with his wife. Annie's two sisters were visiting in their 10 roomed home. Three servants completed the household. I have been unable to trace where their daughter Anna was living at the time.7 Frances made the memorial that hangs in St John the Baptist Church in Wonersh to her brother in law Malcolmson Donahoo who died in 1917. There is a panel picture, the work of Miss Frances Burlison, representing St George victorious over the dragon, was given to the Church by Mrs Donahoo, and placed on the Lady Chapel. At the base of the frame is the inscription 'In proud and ever loving memory of Captain Malcolmson Gardiner Donahoo MC 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, who died of wounds, received on the field of honour, near, Ypres, 31 January 1917 Frances was Mrs Anne Donahoo's sister.8,9 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register she was listed as living at Austins, High Barn, Godalming, Surrey, England with her sister Annie Sisters Annie, Margaret and Frances were living together. Frances was an artist.10 She received the probate of the estate of Margaret Burlison on 27 August 1959 in London to her sister Frances.      Robert Oswald Burlison was born on 25 May 1883 in St Pancras, London, England.2 He was the son of John Burlison and Elizabeth Sarah Grylls.1 Robert was always known as Bob.3 He was the son of John Burlison and Elizabeth Sarah Burlison in the 1891 census in Grove End House, St Pancras, London, England.4 He was the stepson of John Whitaker and Elizabeth Sarah Whitaker in the 1901 census in Highworth House, Highworth Hill, Hendon, London, England. Robert was a Clerk Prudential Stationer.5 Robert sailed from Dover on 16 June 1905 to New York on board the ship Deutschland, he was described as a 'Traveller.6' He was listed as brother in the 1911 census in 2 Elm Row, Hampstead, London, England. Robert was a manufacturer of paint cleaner 'Zog', His sister Frances Burlinson signed the census form.7 Robert enlisted into the Royal Fusaliers in the Machine Gun Corp and served in France.3 He married Ada Louisa Smith on 26 March 1920 in St Giles in the Field, Camden, London, England, after a license had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by L E Rendell, William Frederick Bendy Smith and Evelyn Farereare. Robert was a manufacturer living at 2 Elm Row in Hampstead. Robert was a Managing Director of a Shoe Polish Manufacturers.9 Robert and Ada sailed from Avonmouth on 22 December 1953 on board the shp Ariguani bound for Kingston in Jamaica, they gave their address as Maristhorpe, The Marine in Deal. Robert was listed as a Company Director.10 Robert and Ada sailed from London on 30 December 1954 on board the ship Stratheden bound for Sydney in Australia.10 Robert and Ada arrived in Bristol on 24 March 1957 on board the ship Camito from Bridgetown. They gave their address as 48 Marina, in Deal and Robert was described as retired.11 Robert and Ada arrived in Southampton on 17 April 1959 on board the ship Athlone Castle from Durban giving their address as 48 Marina, Deal in Kent.11 Robertand Ada sailed from London on 30 December 1960 on board the ship Orsova bound for Fremantle in Australia.10 He died on 21 October 1966 in Marlsthorpe, 48 The Marina, Deal, Kent, England, at age 83.12,13 His estate was probated on 29 December 1966 to his widow Ada Louisa Burlison and Leonard Ernest Randell a stock broker and Barrie Roberts a solicitor. His effects were valued at £15,918.12

     John Clement Burlison was born on 11 July 1873 in St Pancras, London, England.1 He was the son of John Burlison and Elizabeth Sarah Grylls.2 He was the son of John Burlison and Elizabeth Sarah Burlison in the 1881 census in 33 Osney Crescent, St Pancras, London, England.3 John was admitted to Clare College in Cambridge on 10 October 1892 obtaining his B.A.in 1895.4 He was the step son of John Whitaker and Elizabeth Sarah Whitaker in the 1901 census in Highworth House, Highworth Hill, Hendon, London, England. John was a Private Secretary.5 He married Margaret Isabel Rubens in 1902 in Kensington, London, England.6 He received the probate of the estate of Elizabeth Sarah Whitaker on 28 May 1909.7 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in 57 Sussex Gardens, Paddington, London, England. John was a Dealer in the Stock Market living with his wife, two children and six servants in their 15 roomed home.8 John served in the Great War. he was a Captain in Machine Gun Corps, in France, Egypt and Mesopotamia and was twice mentioned in despatches.4 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register John was listed as living at Pratsham Cottage, Dorking, Surrey, England with his wife Margaret. John was a Dealer in the Stock Market living with his wife, two children and six servants in their 15 roomed home.3 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Margaret was listed as living at Pratsham Cottage, Dorking, Surrey, England with her husband John.      John Whitaker was born in 1844 in St George Hanover Square, London, England.1,2 He married Harriett Mitchel Nicoll on 18 October 1866 in St Paul, Hampstead, London, England, after a licence had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by Harold Nicoll, Bradford Edwards, Helen Nicoll and Anne Whtaker. John was a Brewer from Sandford House, N Henry Street and his father Thomas Whitaker was a Gentleman. Harriet lived at Oaklands in Kilburn and her father Donald Nicholl was also a Gentleman.3,4 His wife Harriett died in 1888 in Hampstead, London, England.5 He married Elizabeth Sarah Burlison on 27 August 1894 in Pancras, London, England, After an allegation was taken out on 27 August 1894 at St Mary in Brookfield. Both John and Ellizabeth were widowed.1,6,7 He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in Highworth House, Highworth Hill, Hendon, London, England.
