He was the son of Friend William Brockman and Charlotte Annie Lock in the 1901 census in 54 Chilton Street, Rotherhithe, London, England.2 He married Mary Ann Cantwell on 25 December 1912 in St Barnabus, Rotherhithe, London, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Henry Mann and Rebecca Louisa Oates. Friend was a labourer, his father Friend William Brockman was a foreman. Mary's father Martin Cantwell was deceased and had been a french polisher. Both Friend and Mary lived in 18 Rotherhithe New Road.3 Friend served in the Rifle Brigade as Private 5/9949, and in the Labour Corps 120860.4 His wife Mary died in 1966 in Southwark, London, England.5 He died in 1967 in Lewisham, London, England.6

The ceremony was witnessed by Corporal Johny Walker and Maryan Brockman. Alfred was a soldier, his father William Potter was a labourer but deceased.
