Her father was William Wallis Allen and he was a contractor.3 Ernest enlisted into the 2nd Battalion of the Devon Regiment serving as Corporal 14130.4,5 He died on 1 July 1916 in France killed in action. War gratuities were paid to Miss Caroline M Paget £10 5s 11d on 7 November 1916 and £8 10s on 26 September 1919.4 He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.6
