John William Ellis was born in 1853 in Guildford, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Oliver Sidney Ellis and Ellen Elizabeth Colebrook. Oliver, Ellen and their two children, together with two of Ellen's brother Thomas and cousin John set sail on 2 April 1859 from Gravesend on the ship Whirlwind bound for Auckland in New Zealand. Ellens brother John and cousin Tom apparently travelled as steerage passengers and worked ther passage. Many of the famly suffered from sea sickness and they encountered many storms on the way. They arrived on 15 July 1959.2 John became mayor of Hamilton.2

Peter Lewis Osborne was born on 3 December 1934 in Woking, Surrey, England.1,2 He was the son of George William Osborne and Doris Marion Denney. Peter was educated at the kindergarten in Bramley, run by Miss Ball. Then he went onto George Abbott School in Guildford.3 George and Denney lived in Redroofs in Wonersh with their sons from about 1945 until George's death in 1962. Peter sung in Wonersh Church choir and later became the organist.3 Peter trained for while into hotel management, then going onto accountancy. He worked for Twentieth Century Fox Films in their London Office.3 Peter wrote the scripts and composed the music, all of which was original for the Wonersh Amateur Dramatic Society from 1959. He not only wrote the scripts, but composed and played the music, painted the scenery, designed the costumes and selected materials, masterminded the special effects and organised the props. Among his television successes he scripted the Two Ronnies.4 He died in 1995 in Kensington, London, England.5 His body was cremated and his ashes were buried in Wonersh Churchyard on 6 January 1995 in Putney Vale Crematorium, Putney Vale, London, England.6
