Francis James Shearman was born in 1895 in Deptford, London, England.2 He was the son of Francis Houlton Shearman and Florence Lydia Tarry.3 He was the son of Francis Houlton Shearman and Florence Lydia Shearman in the 1901 census in 37 Vesta Road, Deptford, London, England.4 He was the son of Francis Houlton Shearman and Florence Lydia Shearman in the 1911 census in The Tarrys, Hill Road, Carshalton, Surrey, England.5 Francis enlisted in Croydon as a Private no G/1388 7th Battalion of the Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) and was sent to France on 27 July 1915.6,7 He died on 1 July 1916 in France.1 Francis name appears on the Plaque in St John's Seminary in their chapel.8
Francis is also remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.1 A war gratuity of £6 18s 11d was paid to his mother Florence on 26 February 1917 and a further £8 on 11 September 1919.9

Francis was in the Civil Service working in Savings Bank living with his wife and daughters with one servant. Little Florence was under one month old.4 He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in 37 Vesta Road, Deptford, London, England. Francis was a Government Clerk in the GPO living with his wife and children, little Irene was only 2 months old.5 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in The Tarrys, Hill Road, Carshalton, Surrey, England. Frances worked for the Civil Service and was a Higher Grade Clerk 2nd Division in the Post Office Savings Department living with his wife, children, brother and niece.6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Francis was listed as living at Cokel Side, Hascombe Road, Hambledon, Surrey, England, with his wife Florence. Francis was a retired civil servant.7 His wife Florence died in 1951 in Surrey, England.8 He died on 26 July 1960 in Ealing, London, England, at age 95.9,10 His estate was probated on 13 March 1961 in Oxford to Herbert Marion Briggs incorporated accountant. His effects were valued at £1,492 16s 4d.9
