     Henry William Hardwick was born circa 1863 in Whitchurch, Hampshire, England.1 Henry enlisted on 26 March 1881 in Brecon into 25th Brigade. He was 18 years 1 month old, and described as five foot 4 inches tall, with a fresh complexion, grey eyes and light brown hair. He served for twelve years until 25 March 1893 when he was a Corporal. His father Alfred from Whitchurch was his next of kin.2 He married Annie Loveland on 11 April 1888 in St Mary the Virgin, Frensham, Surrey, England, after the banns were read. The ceremony was witnessed by Emily Jane Taylor and Annie Hardwick. Henry had been a Corporal in C & J Corps, his father Alfred was a woodman. Annie's father Henry was a carpenter.1,3,4 He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in Stoke Road, Bishop Cleeve, Gloucestershire, England. Henry was a coachman living with his wife.5 Henry enlisted on 30 March 1900 in Aldershot into the Army Service Corps 15716. He was aged 37 years 1 month and was described as being five foot 3½ inches tall, weighing 122 pounds, had a chest measurement of 37 inches. His complexion was fresh, eyes blue, although previously listed as grey, and brown hair. He had a tatooes cross and crown on left forearm.2 On 27 March 1901 Corporal Henry Hardwick was awaiting trial.2 He appeared in the 1901 census in Southampton, Hampshire, England. As a Corporal in temporary barracks.6 He was convicted and imprisoned for 14 days and reduced to the ranks for wilfully allowing a prisoner to escape. He was discharged on 30 April 1901. His wife's address was listed as Henwood Lane, Compton, Wolverhampton in Staffordshire.2 He died in 1907 in Guildford, Surrey, England.7,8
