He was the son of Samuel James Ricketts and Jemima Ricketts in the 1881 census in 17 Lawnsmead, Wonersh, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of Samuel James Ricketts and Jemima Ricketts in the 1891 census in 5 Lawnsmead, Wonersh, Surrey, England. Joseph was a Tanners labourer.4 He married Flora Elizabeth Baker on 18 November 1899 in St Peter, Ash, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Joseph Ricketts and Kate Ricketts. Charles was a labourer. Flora's father Hori Thomas Baker was a labourer and she came from Easebourne Midhurst.5,6 He was listed as head of household in the 1911 census in 4 Aden Cottages, Vale Road, Ash Vale, Surrey, England. Charles was a brickmaker living with his wife, a dressmaker and their four children.7 On 21 April 1917 Charles appeal against being called up was heard. He had previously been exempt being Government washing contractor. The hearing was brought as it was believed not necessary to retain Charles in civil employment, his exemption therefore expired on 5 July 1917.8 He died on 31 December 1917 at sea. He wa slisted as being in RFC 55 Vrits Balloon No 93464.9,10 Flora was paid war gratuity for her husband of £6 11s 4d being a widow with four children on 25 January 1919.10 His estate was probated on 25 August 1961 in London with Administration papers amazingly being given so late to Thomas Frederick Charles Ricketts a plant driver. His estate was valued at £900 and his address was given as 4 Aden Cottages, Vale Road in Ash.9
