He was the grandson of James Jenner and Sarah Jenner in the 1891 census in Run Common, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.2 He appeared in the household as a boarder in the 1911 census in Stroud Common, Shamley Green, Surrey, England. Ernest was a bricklayers labourer boaring with Samuel and Charlotte Pelling.3 He married Eliza Ellen Whitwick on 22 March 1913 in Christ Church, Shamley Green, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. Ernest was a bricklayer, he stated James Jenner was his father. This was really his grandfather, Ernest was born illegitimately. Eliza's father Alfred Whitlock was a labourer.4,5 Ernest enlisted into the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment on 30 May 1916 as a Private with Reg no G15627. He was a bricklayer living in Run Common. He was 5 foot 7 inches tall with a chest measurement of 35 inches. His wife was listed as next of kin.6 He's death was assumed on 23 March 1918 in France he is remembered on the Arras Memorial Bay 7.6,7 Ernest is remembered on Arras Memorial and Shamley Green War Memorial.8

He was the son of George Miles and Ann Miles in the 1891 census in Treyford, Sussex, England.2 He was the son of Ann Miles in the 1901 census in Woodhill Lane, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.3 He appeared in the household as a boarder in the 1911 census in Church End Lodge, Ripley, Surrey, England. He is staying with Paynter and Elizabeth Dancaster. Paynter is an estate blacksmith. James is a farm labourer.4 He died on 23 April 1918 in France James was a Private in the Royal Army Medical Corps 28th Field Ambulance and was killed in action during the Battle of Lys. His regimental number was 80168.5 James sister Lily was awarded a war gratuity of £11 10s 7d on 24 July 1918 and a further £11 on 11 December 1919.6 He was buried in Grootebeek Cemetery, Poperinge, Belgium, in plot A11.5 James is remembered on the Shamley Green War Memorial.7
