Robert Heywood Haslam was born on 8 March 1878 in Bolton, Lancashire, England.1 He was the son of William Haslam and Mary Heywood. He was the son of William Haslam and Mary Haslam in the 1891 census in Whitebank House, Wigan Road, Rumworth, Lancashire, England.2 He married Alice Ada Kathleen Forbes on 29 July 1909 in St Johns Church, Aberdeen, Morayshire, Scotland, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by William Haslam and Arthur Dalrymple Forbes-Gordon. Robert was 31 and an architect living in 99 Mortimer Street in London. His parents were William Haslam a cotton manufacturer and Mary Haslam née Heywood. Alice was 25 and lived in Legatesden House in the Chapel of Garioch. Her father was Arthur Newton Forbes-Gordon a landed proprietor and Penelope Forbes-Gordon née Christie.3 He and Alice Ada Kathleen Forbes were divorced on 7 November 1910.3 He married Dolores Margaret Lomax in 1916 in Marylebone, London, England.4 Robert and Margaret Dolores left Avonmouth on 31 January 1921 on board TSS Camito bound for Kingston, Jamaica.5 Robert and Dolores sailed on 21 December 1929 from Liverpool on board SS Avoceta bound for Lisbon, Madeira and the Canaray Islands. They gave their address as Wonersh Park.5 Robert sold the area known now as Church Green to Beatrice Cook from Barnett Hill. She donated the land to the village for a quiet place for Wonersh adults. The area includes the land on which the Mansion once stood.6 Robert bought The Mansion from the Sudbuys but allowed Mary Sudbury to live their for the rest of her life. He continued to live in Wonersh Mill. By the time she had died the house was in a rather delapidated state and it would have cost too much to restore. Some of the land (172 acres) was sold off to a buillder, who built Wonersh House and set aside the rest to form Wonersh Park Estate and allowed the building of many large houses. Robert donated some of the wood from the house to build the Pepperpot situated in the centre of the village. The tiles from the old ice house completed the building, originally used as a bus stop.6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Robert was listed as living at Mill House, Wonersh, Surrey, England, with his wife Dolores. Robert was living on private means.7 He died on 9 April 1954 in Mill House, Wonersh, Surrey, England, at age 76.8,9,10 His estate was probated on 30 June 1954 in London to William Heywood Haslam a company director and Richard James Beaven a solicitor.
