He was baptised on 1 March 1891 in Christ Church, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.2 He was the son of James John Butcher and Mary Ann Butcher in the 1891 census in Cottage, Lordshill, Shamley Green, Surrey, England.3 He was the son of James John Butcher and Mary Ann Butcher in the 1901 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England.4 He was the son of James John Butcher and Mary Ann Butcher in the 1911 census in Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England. William was a general labourer.5 W E Butcher was conscripted into 3rd Battalion East Surrey Regiment on 10 December 1915. He was aged 25 years 4 months and given a service number of 47377. He gave his occupation as a clerk. He was 5 foot 5 inches tall, weighed 154 pounds and had a chest measurement of 38 inches. Did he later get transferred to QRWS Regiment?6 I believe William was the Lance Corporal W Butcher from The Queens who was wounded in the head on 8 August 1917 and was reported in the Surrey Advertiser of 27 August as recovering in hospital. The report stated he had been wounded altogether five times on a previous occassion on 4 May . He had been at the front for over two years Certainly he was the elder son of Mr and Mrs Butcher of Wonersh Common.7 William was recorded in the Parish Magagzine stated he had been wounded for the sixth time but was recovering well in October 1918.8 William was in 1932 living in 4 Onslow Road, Guildford, Surrey, England.9 He married Florence Lucas on 7 January 1933 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Jesse Lucas and Gilbert Bicknell. William was a carpenter and his father John James Butcher a builder. Florence's father Jesse Lucas was a tailor.10 He died in 1933 in Guildford, Surrey, England.11 He was buried on 6 February 1933 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England.12

Leonard was a soldier and his father James Randall was a painter. Elizabeh's father John James Butcher wa a labourer.5 She died on 19 September 1979 in 20 Francis Road, Croydon, Surrey, England, at age 86.6,7 Her estate was probated on 17 December 1979 Administration papers were issued with a will in London. Her effects were valued at £544.7
