He worked as a drayman.³ Samuel served in the Mounted Infantry in South Africa from 1 September 1902 until 5 January 1904.³ Samuel served in India from 14 January 1904 through to 12 March 1907.³ He married Charlotte May Whitwick, daughter of Alfred James Whitwick and Fanny Luxford, on 7 January 1911 in Christ Church, Shamley Green, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read.
