     Percy Mitchell was born on 2 September 1888. He was the son of William Thomas Mitchell. He married Kathleen Eugenie Thompson, daughter of John William Painter Thompson and Katherine Eugenie White, on 6 September 1916 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by John William Painter Thompson, Cyril Mitchell and R H Thompson. Percy was a Customs and Excise Officer from Morley in Leeds. His father William Thomas Mitchell was a tradesman. Kathleen was from Wonersh, her father John William Painter Thompson was an engineer.1,2 His wife Kathleen died in 1923 in Maidstone, Kent, England.3 He married Emily Maud Fogerty, daughter of Thomas Lawrence Fogerty, on 15 November 1923 in St Augustine, Newton Heath, Lancashire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by William Abbott and Kathleen Winyard. Percy was a civil servant and his father was William Thomas Mitchell a retired grocer. Emily's father Lawrence Thomas Fogarty was a retired civil servant. Percy gave his address as 5 Kirkstone Terrace, Roans Lane in Morley. Emila gave Monsall Hospital as her address.4 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Percy was listed as living at 7 Inverness Court, Ealing, London, England, with his wife Emily. Percy was a civil servant and Emily a trained nurse in the Civil Nursing Reserve.5 He died in 1971 in Worthing, Sussex, England.6

     George Aubrey Liddle was born on 18 January 1896 in West Hartlepool, Durham, England.1 He was the son of George Liddle and Lillie Sheppardson. He was the grandson of Thomas Sheppardson and Betsy Ann Sheppardson in the 1901 census in 8 Tankerville Street, Hartlepool, Durham, England.2 He was the grandson of Thomas Sheppardson and Betsy Ann Sheppardson in the 1911 census in 8 Tankerville Street, Hartlepool, Durham, England.3 George was a Private in A Company 9th Battalion of the Highland Light Infantry. George fought in Flanders and was taken prisoner near Leter (Ypres) in the early morning of 25 September 1917. He was eventually transferred to Germany and was in three different POW camps including the infamours Minden Camp. George luckily survived the war.4 GA Liddle 332868 (West Hartlepool) serving in Highland Light Infantry appeared in War Office Weekly Casualty list of 20 November 1917.5 He married Eliza A A Carver in 1927 in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England.6 He died in 1964 in Middlesex, England.7

     George Osborne was born circa 1897. He died on 16 January 1916 killed in action by an artillary bombardment near Levantie on the Western Front. He was serving as a Private in the Welsh Regiment.1 He was buried in January 1916 in Rue de Bacquerot Military Cemetery, France.1

Arthur Mayes

     Arthur Mayes was born in 1887 in Egleton, Rutland, England.1 He was the son of Thomas Mayes and Emma ... The family moved to 21 Mill Street in Oakham.1 Arthur enlisted in the Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment at the age of 18 and served in India for several years. He left the army and became a saddler.1 When war broke out Arthur rejoined the same regiment as Lance Corporal 7668. He was one of the first draft of the Expeditionary Force in August 1914 and took part in the retreat from Mons. He also fought in the Battle of Aisne.1 He died on 17 September 1917 killed by a shell. The explosion wiped out 11 others of B Company to which Arthur belonged, as well as wounding several others. They were all buried where they fell with crosses placed on their graves with the words ' Here lies half a section of B Company of 1st Northants.1' Arthur's body was never recovered by the end of the war. He is remembered on La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial and on the war memorial in Oakham. Egleton where he was born does not have a memorial.1
