24 September
2006 - Bourne Park BBQ |
|
|
Each year Aerofab
Restorations provide a BBQ for their customers and
close friends. This year it was on 24 September. |
Having not flown
for so long Martin was suffering badly from withdrawal symptoms, so we
decided we needed a fly around before attending the BBQ |
We took off and
headed for Guildford to see old haunts and then down to the coast,
intending to have a flight around the Isle of Wight. As we
approached the South Downs it was clear this was not an option as the
cloud was far too low and quite menacing looking. |
So we decided to
turn back and head for Bourne Park slowly. We had after all had the
best part of an hour flying. |
We landed to find
some planes had beaten us, but were followed by planes landing every few
minutes, including the Antonov AN2 from Popham with our friend Chris
Thomson at the controls. What an amazing sight |
The BBQ by then
was well underway and we retired to the back of the hanger to enjoy the
prepared food and drink and chat to other flyers. |
A trip around the
aeroplanes and a visit inside the Antanov took most of the
afternoon. We watched the Antanov team prepare it for its trip back
to Popham and were amazed at just how little runway it needed to take off. |
We remembered
Tony who died 27 July |
Many thanks to
all concerned at Aerofab for a super day. |
