     Sidney Charles Oliver Greathead was born in 1891 in Edmonton, London, England.3,1 He was the son of Walter George Greathead and Amelia Eliza Booth. He was baptised on 19 November 1891 in St John the Devine, Stamford Hill, London, England, His home address was 35 Shaftesbury Street.4 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 119 Chelmsford, Walthamstow, London, England, he was listed as the son of Walter George Greathead.5 Walter and Amelia travelled with their children to Montreal aboard the ship Vancouver, landing at Quebec in Canada. Walter and his sons Percy and Sydney were described as labourers, and daughter Lucy a servant. The ship arrived on 19 August.6,7 He married Constance Trilby Gwenddene Booth, daughter of Frederick Arthur Booth and Emily Rose Payn, on 27 June 1914 in 319 Hunter Street West, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, The congregational ceremony was witnessed by Miss Adelaine Atkins of 388 Harkmeer Street, Hamilton and Miss Darcey Lucy Dunk of 198 Dundern Street, Hamilton.8 Sidney and Constance changed their surname to Grey.2 Charles and Constance appear on the manifest as attempting to gain a visa to travel to Canada from US on 26 September 1933. Their application was rejected. Charles was a listed as a carpenter. They gave their sister in law Mrs E Cunningham (Florence wife of Edward) 3823 Valletbrink Road Los Angeles as their nearest ralative in US.9 Charles took naturalisation papers in 1939 and officially changed his name to Grey on 9 February 1940.10 His wife Constance died on 19 December 1945 in Los Angeles, California, USA, aged 50.2 Sidney died on 14 July 1959 in Los Angeles, California, USA.11

John Hyers was listed as a labourer who was out of employ. Margaret Greathead aged 28 was one of the five general servants in the household. There was also Margaret Boyd also 28, Mary Banner, Hannah Pitman and Mary Davies all aged 50. Mary Davies was a widow the others were single.      Robert Greathead was born on 3 February 1853 in 5 Tabbutts Row, Jenkinson Street, Chorlton upon Medlock, Manchester, Lancashire, England.2,3,4 He was the son of Richard Greathead and Elizabeth Barlow. In the census of 7 April 1861 in 32 Hibbert Street, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Richard Greathead Robert was a scholar.5 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 7 Howell Croft North, Great Bolton, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the nephew of Robert and Margaret Barlow. He was a labourer at the iron foundry.6 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 7 Howell Croft, Bolton, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the lodger of Robert Barlow and his wife Margaret. They were his sister's parents in law. The household also consisted of his sister, her husband
and their son Henry. Robert was working as a labourer. Next door in No 9 was his brother Richard Greathead.7 He married Sarah Jane Ferris, daughter of Hugh Cosgrave and Helen McCullough, on 1 September 1899 in Register Office, Bolton, Lancashire, England, after a certificate was issued. The ceremony was witnessed by Robert's sister Mary Ellen and his brother in law, Thomas Smith. Robert was described as a general labourer living at 91 Gas Street, Bolton. Sarah gave her addess as 24 Slaterfield, Bolton.8,9 Robert was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 54 Darby Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, Robert was an iron foundry labourer.10
Robert was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 3 Flear Bottom, Bolton, Lancashire, England, Robert was a general labourer living with his wife and son. The household also consisted of his step son, his wife and their son, Robert's grandson. They all lived in a four roomed home.11 Robert set off bound for Quebec in Canada leaving Liverpool on 29 May 1912 aboard the Steamship Corsican owner by Allan Line Steamship Co Ltd. He was listed as a labourer. The ship was bound for Montreal in Canada with 1681 passengers on board. The ship was 27209 square feet and was registered with a tonnage of 7272. Sarah travelled with their son Alfred also leaving Liverpool on 17 October 1912 for Quebec in Canada. They also travelled on the Allan Line steamship Corsican which was bound for Montreal in Canada with 947 passengers on board.12 Robert appeared in the 1913 Voter's List. He lived in the "Valley Ward" in Dundas. His occupation at the time was a helper and he lived on Witherspoon Street.13 He died on 19 January 1917 in Dundas, Ontario, Canada, aged 63 from a duodenal ulcer for three months which turned into peritonitist ioemia. His wife registered his death. For some reason his mother was described as Elizabeth Nipon and his age as 50 years, 11 months and 15 days.14 He was buried on 22 January 1917 The Dundas Star of Thursday 25 January 1917 reported that the funeral of Robert Greathead, King Street West took place last Monday to Grove Cemetery. He was a native of England. He had been an employee of the Bertram Firm for a number of years and had been ill for a couple of months. Bertrams was a large manufacturing plant in Dundas on Hatt Street. They manufactured any things, but during the time Robert worked there, they were making shells for the war. The company started out making quality woodworking equipment, machine tools used by the railway, boilers and marine steam engines. The company existed until the 1960's.15

     Pauline Mary Tindale was also known by the name of Pleen.1 She was born on 11 March 1876 in Sancton, Yorkshire, England.2,3,4 She was the daughter of William Tindale and Hannah Greathead. In the census of 3 April 1881 in Houghton Lane, Sancton and Houghton, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Tindale.5 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Star Inn (Public House), Sancton, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Tindale.6 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Star Inn, King Street, Sancton, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Tindale.7 She married William Pickering in 1903 in Pocklington, Yorkshire, England.8 In the census of 2 April 1911 in Star Inn, Sancton, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Hannah Tindale Hannah was a publican and farmer living with her daughter, son in law and two grandchildren.9 Pauline died on 9 March 1979 in Beverley, Yorkshire, England, aged 102 Pauline lived her last 13 years in Rokeby House, Anlaby Park Road North, Hull. Amazingly she did not need glasses to read. A former pub landlady of the Star Inn at Sancton who never touched alcohol. Until her death she always insisted on going to the polls at an election, refusing to vote by post. She appeared in the Hull Daily Mail in 1976 when she celebrated her 100th birthday, a musical trio sang especially for her. Two years later she again appeared in the same paper when she celebrated her 102nd birthday. It reported that residents where she lived enjoyed a party in her honour, the cook baked a special cake and she was presented with a bouquet of flowers to which she apparently whispered "Beautiful."10,11,1

     Ann Sole was born in 1785.2 She married Samuel Greathead, son of Thomas Greathead and Martha Cooper, on 7 March 1808 in Minster, Sheppey, Sheerness, Kent, England, after the banns being read. Both were from Queensborough Bethel Chapel an independent church. The marriage was witnessed by William and James (brothers) Greathead, Mary Overton and Thomas Sole.1,3 Ann died in 1826 in Minster, Sheppey, Sheerness, Kent, England.1 Ann was buried on 2 August 1826 in S.S. Mary and Sexburga, Minster, Kent, England.1
