     William Greathead Atkinson was born in 1861 in Bedale, Yorkshire, England.2 He was the son of Richard Atkinson and Mary Scaife.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Ilton with Pott, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the grandson of Mary Rodwell aged 74 of no occupation.4 He married Hannah Maria Williams, daughter of William Williams, on 14 December 1884 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Denton Drake and Mary Jane Atkinson. William came from Bramley and was a grocer's assistant and Hannah gave her address as Victoria Terrace.5,6 William was listed as the head of the family on the census of 5 April 1891 in 3 St Anns Buildings, Bramley, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, William was a grocer's assistant living with his wife and son Allen.7 William died in 1897 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.8
