Also why was William described as a tailor when in 1861 and 1881 he was a carpenter. I chased a John and Ann Rhodes and their three children Hannah, Walker and Arthur through all the census records only to discover John a widower in 1871. Wrong Ann Rhodes!! I wondered whether the Hannah mentioned as daughter was infact not a misenumeration for Eliza but of course the place of birth is also a bit of a quiz. Rhodes obviously comes in somewhere to the equation otherwise why would William and Eliza give the name to two of their children? I even chased the Catchesides all over Lambeth!!1 William was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in 6 York Street, St Marylebone, London, England, William was described as a carpenter journeyman and was living with his wife and young son William.5 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Hill Street, Bingley, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Moorhouse William was a tailor journeyman.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 he was listed as the son in law of Ann Rhodes William was listed as a tailor, his wife as Hannah born in Bingley age 28. Was this an enumeration mistake? He was living with his mother in law who was listed as Ann Rhodes and his children Jonas, Charles and Thomas.7 William was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in 79 Main Street, Bingley, Yorkshire, England, William was a tailor employing three men, his mother was staying with the family.8 William was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 35 Melbourne Grove, Camberwell, London, England, William was a tailor.9 William was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 35 Melbourne Grove, Camberwell, London, England, William is described as a Master Tailor.
